Hey guys :) so i am in the process of hunting down a plane ticket to the Dominican Republic for my interview but their rediculously high

my line sister suggested that I buy a one way ticket to STI a couple of days before I plan to go because they lower down the prices in hopes of selling all tickets? But this could either go great or really bad. I wanted to ask if any of the Dominican Republic members have done this before? Can you guys give me your opinion on this please :help:

P.S.

sorry for all the questions :(

Hi, It's fine to buy a one way ticket. Booking 20 - 30 days before the flight can be cheaper also. Try booking a flight on a Tuesday or Wednesday they are cheaper. Good Luck :)

Theres absolutely no problem with you buying a one way ticket and going a few days before the interview. It's a good idea to arrive 2 to 3 days before to go over everything together..: but if your concern is the plane ticket there is nothing to worry about....people do it all the time..(family members of mines who are citizens/permanent residents) You can go with just a one way ticket...and if they happen to ask(which i highly doubt)you can just explain your process and how you may come back with your husband.

PS. I noticed the ticket I bought went up an hour after I bought it then back down 2 weeks right before my interview date. Just keep checking every hour... I'm almost sure .you're not gonna find Anything under $450 for a direct round trip (maybe cheaper if you stop somewhere else).,,Is summer time and the kids are in vacation over there....especially if you're gonna stay there for a few days...I would give it 1-2 more weeks to buy the plane ticket (1 month or 2 weeks before the interview)

From JFK. The airport in Philadelphia only do direct flights on the weekends, and EWR was toooooo expensive. So I'm just gonna drive my car... I hate planes that's why I have to go straight no stops. But Kaskada you live in PA...you can either go from Philadelphia but it's more expensive plus you gotta stop somewhere....JFK is the cheapest of them all to go to DR...just wait until June 20th-25th to See if they went down..,if now 2 weeks before the interview like July 4-13 to buy the ticket...Im positive they will go down $50-70.

Yea, I looked into Philly, but they were really high as well as Newark. The last time I went through JFK and loved it so that's what ill probably do :) thanks for the advice ladies.

Hi if your wait until the 20th they are going to go up. That is the last day of school around here. My suggestion is try booking your flight mon-wed before 11:30 am. after that time they go up. I am alway looking for tickets for myself and others and I have noticed that pattern. Expedia and Jetblue usually have sales one day sales on weds also. Good luck and let me know if you need any help.

I am all for buying tickets way in advance. I think if you wait right before your trip they will be a lot more expensive. That is usually the case.

As far as the one way ticket, they MIGHT not ask you for a return flight but I would have proof just in case. They have asked me for proof of return flight before with JetBlue and good thing I had it or else the guy told me he would have not allowed me to fly! I tried calling JetBlue when I was thinking of buying just a one way flight this past May for our cita and explained my situation, but the lady told me it was not up to the airline, it was a federal regulation no matter the circumstance. You can print out a 24 hour hold from another airline and have it ready JUST in case they ask (You can do this with American Airlines). Just to be safe you know. The last thing you need is an issue flying, especially if you are leaving only a few days before the interview.

Since I didn't know what day the visa would be issued to my husband and I wanted to fly back with him I was also going to do only a one way for me. But then I sat down and thought about it. I had to be back to work by a certain date REGARDLESS of whether he was issued the visa or not, so I bought my return flight for the day before I had to come back to work and PRAYED the visa was issued before the day I scheduled my flight so I could buy my husband's ticket for the same day I was scheduled to leave. I figured, I would rather spend A LOT on a last minute ticket for him than pay A LOT for two tickets for us. Do you get my logic? That will work if you MUST be back by a certain date regardless of what happens. If you can go to DR and be there for weeks at a time without a set date you have to be back by then that's different. But since I had to be back by the 15th visa issued or not, it worked for me. Thankfully it all worked out for us, and I got a great deal on his last minute ticket! I guess God was looking out for me since I was ready to pay an outrageous amount for his last minute ticket.

I hope this helps!

I had issues with both JetBlue and American Airlines. I purchased my departure and return flights as one ways as opposed to purchasing roundtrip. With JetBlue, the morning I went to check in for my flight I was questioned as to whether I had a return flight. I did, but it wasn’t showing up in the system for some reason. They eventually found it, but I was told I needed proof of a return flight in order to fly out that day. With AA, I called long before my departure flight to make a change and I still hadn’t booked my return flight because I was still deciding what day I wanted to leave. It was immediately brought to my attention that I hadn’t purchased a return flight and would need to do so prior to being able to fly out. You can do it, just be prepared.

Also, maybe you might consider flying from PHL to FLA and then from there taking a flight from FL to DR using separate airlines. It might be a little extra work that some might not want to do, but for me it was worth saving the money. For instance, I might have flown from PHL to Miami on Southwest or AirTran for pretty cheap. And then from there found a deal from Miami to DR on AA or JetBlue. Trying to come up with the best way to get to DR and save money was just as much of a chore as trying to prepare to get through this visa process smoothly. Exhausting!
