June 9, 1992 Congress passed the Internet Communications Act, opening up the Internet to the public. At this time, when only defense contractors used it, the Internet had 50 websites; by 2000, it had 77 million… See More websites, now in the hundreds of millions. Before giving it to the public, the government once offered to give the entire internet to AT&T. They turned it down, because they didn't know what to do with it either.

:wow: i never heard that before. thats gotta be the worst business decision ever.

That's as bad as when Cocoa Cola had a chance to buy a struggling beverage company - Pepsi for a bargain price and turned it down.
