We are looking for some advice from fellow Visajourney members. My Fiancee and I are three months into our I-129F Petition and are getting stressed. We are tying to arrange our wedding in the US and also we have friends from the UK who want to come out but obviously we cant set a date... we have provisionally but the more we think about it the less likely we are going to have it all completed in time.

We are in a slightly different situation from most I-129F petitions as we live together in the UK as my partner has indefinite leave to remain as her step father is English.

So we have been discussing recently the benefits potentially of scrapping our current fiancee petition and just having a small quick ceremony (in the next few weeks) and then going down the DCF route. This way we can then arrange a blessing in the US for my fiancees family to attend.

Really we are just looking for some advice, are we stupid to scrap our I-129f petition and apply for DCF so far into our current petition? From what I have read, where we are time wise both can be completed in roughly the same amount of time, but with the DCF even if we include what we have already paid for our I129f will work out about $700 cheaper?

As long as you have been living in the UK for 6 months or more and have proof of this, you can apply at the consulate there. Anything less than 6 months living there you cannot. Good luck :)

The Op is asking about DCF which will not make the process longer. It will probably make the process quicker, and even with losing what you have paid already, cheaper.

OP - sounds like a good plan to me.... CR-1 visa is much better in that the beneficiary can work and travel immediately upon entry, and not be stuck in the US for a few months or more while travel permissions are pending.

You might ask in the UK regional forum your specific London DCF questions.

Good luck!

AOS for my husband
