Speaking of accents, my guy just informed me a few months ago that the geico gecko was English and not Australian :ot:

I really don't understand how people in the US mistake the English accent for Australian. The Gecko doesn't sound even a little bit Australian to me.

Saying that though, I get asked at work all the time "Aussie or South African?" People are surprised when I say I am English. I don't get it.

When the Americans ask me, I say "Yorkshire"

It's worth it to see their mental wheels spin. Most of them think that is somewhere near Georgia in the Caucasus

To help with geography and add to the fun, I always help by saying "Our last King was Eric Bloodaxe"

It's quite ironic that a nation capable of landing a cruise missile on someone 7,000 miles away to an accuracy of 2 inches, doesn't know where Yorkshire is.

The population of Yorkshire is greater than that of Ireland or Scotland or Wales - yet most people couldn't place it in the correct hemisphere.

Honestly, I chose the English flag for purely aesthetic reasons. I like its elegant simplicity.

Uh, no. The current Geico Gecko is an actor named Jake Wood, he's English and he used to be in Eastenders.

My bad. Checked it out you are right.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Weird, I like the Union flag coz foreigners don't know which is the right way up !

It's like rhyming slang - you can teach it for a week and they still can't figure how it works

I belong to that small band who knows that when I say I have stiff 'gregory', it isn't rude.

Thats crazy! How does an American sound like any of those?! My husband always gets weird comments like "You have an accent. Is it American" And they go on to ask where in the US he is from. He says New York. They always assume city. Apart from the man who works in the post office who's sister lives in Buffalo :lol:I have yet to meet anybody in the UK who actually knows that there is an entire state above NYC!!!

Ain't that the truth, and my husband was one of them until I set him straight!!

Once my husband was complimented on his accent and then asked if he was from Quebec! Because Brits sounds so French-Canadian!! We roared laughing!

Im sad to say, i didnt know until i saw a family from NYS on Wife Swap probably about 8 years ago  Of all the ways to learn.. But im glad nobody had to tell me!

Ive only been mistaken for an Australian once. The only other accent problem i had was trying to order a tuna sub. Everybody around seemed to understand apart from the man taking the order :bonk: He had it shouted at him from several directions in the end

He's still on Eastenders. He plays Max Branning. I'm watching it right now!
