Well I am back and stopped, my father opted out of being my joint sponsor, my mother too, my aunts and uncles, cousins they say that they cant risk their belongings and thier properties being taken because of having to support my wife.

How far does the extent of the law goes as far as the Joint Sponsors RESPONSABILITY??

Thanks and Best Regards

PS I cant do it by myself since I was living in MEXICO with my wife and hardly made any income last year, Bummer

What is your current annualized income? That is what is measured.

You have gone along way in the process but now your reliance on a Co-Sponsor has dimishished. There must be a separate reason for the sudden Change. But, thats neither here nor there. Immediate family has decided "No"... Were not going to Sponsor your Love - Life and that is your responsibility. And, I agree.

Your in Mexico having a good time with your wife and relied upon family to walk you through the process with a signature. They got Smart, did'nt they? They might have figured NO CHANGE in your behavior as far as Support. So, I figure... They backed out! But, they did nothing wrong.

They Economy is rough I know, but residing in Mexico with the lower wages is not going to help. Jump the Border... Get a job. (I know there hard to find) With No Co-Sponsor and not meeting Income Requirements your dead.

So, what are you going to do ?

I would tell your parents: I need a place to stay. Go find work and do this without you. (Co-Sponsor) It is my responsibility... Or you can just sit there.

There is No easy way... My point is: You are responsible for your personal relationships/financials. Not your family.

The I 864 sets out the obligations very clearly.

what has your income last year got to do with it?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I agree Boiler. But I sense... That Last year and this year have not changed otherwise the OP would have mentioned that. Currant Income is most important and shows stability. So many Petitioners deal with this economy and others are OK. The OP's Original post indicates he does make enough last year and does not indicate this year is any better. Therefore, so as... Has indicated the familys denial to continue as a Co-Sponsors in the Petition. Thats personal between family.

The CO-Sponsor term is used so much. There are good reasons for each and every case. A Student about to Graduate and so on. I see no indication of this in the OP's post. I don't know the story? Were only here for random advice and let the OP make decisions on their own.

When someone asks a question here, they will get many opinions and that is helpful. They are read. Then, the OP has to take each one and determine what fits me best... The OP indicates the process has been completed with a Co-Sponsor so far, but that Option is Null. Now, there is No Sponsor.

I am back in the states since January and have been making money but my last years income tax is not so great ince 8 months out of the 12 I was not In the US, whats currently happening is that they state that they are scared my father thinks the IRS is going to look him and find other things my mother is iffy on handing over her taxes to the IRS as she states, my uncle is just scared that if I die within those 5 years he is going to have to carry the load of my wife, my cousin says she has a million dollar porfolio that she is not willing to risk for my wife, that why I was asking how far does the extent of the law go?

It's what your earning now that matters. If your annualized current income meets the requirement you ought to be able to do it on your own.

For the second time: What are you making now?

Penguin's advice is spot on. And it's 100% in your control, no relying on others.

As far as the sponsor's obligation goes, it is primarily to protect government agencies from paying for services/benefits given to the immigrant. Before any joint sponsor would be sued the agency would come after you as the primary sponsor. Not to supply living expenses. So it is extremely unlikely that anyone is going to be on the hook for rent, car, food, etc.

For the immigrant to get any money for paying bills they would have to bring suit in court (first you, then the joint sponsor). The amount of support is only up to the poverty line less anything that they are earning. So the exposure is low. This type of suit rarely happens. And is even more rare to be successful. Is it possible? Yes. How likely? A bit better odds that winning Powerball.

You show current income in two ways:

- letter from employer stating salary/ that you are permanent and not just a short term temp.

- Paystubs and/ or bank account details showing the money regularly going into your account.

Hi, Sorry to hear of your situation. My family was the same when we needed a co sponsor, everyone was fast to say No. Ask your friends or someone you work with. A friend of ours came through for us. Good Luck to you :)
