calling PHILIPPINES FROM USA... what to use

Oh well, I just found out today they don't have land line. I ask her how she talked to her mother and she told me her brother had a cell phone her mother would use. Anyway, we are leaving her laptop there, and maybe they can talk some on YM or something. I am just afraid the computer will not last that long without her there to take care of it. I checked into google voice and it is 15 cents per minute to cell and 10 to land line. Can't afford to talk everyday at that rate.

Its free to sign up for google voice , and then have her log in the account and call you, its free calls to the usa and canada. I call the usa all the time for free from the philippines from my usa google voice account.

Hey Brad it's you again, what type of plan did your girl bought from Globe? I am Globe too (Samsung Galaxy S3) under a plan of Unlimited Mobile Surfing for PHP 1,799 a month. So even without internet connection, I still can use Viber and Skype using it's unlimited 3G/4G connection. For some reason, it works wonder (on certain location). Try asking your girl what type of plan she get for her Globe android phone.

She pays the normal Globe price for having a Globe SIM. I dont think she even pays anything it's just an active Globe SIM.

Google voice costs, but Google voice with an OBI device is free. Ya it requires internet, but it is the cat's meow for sure! I have even updated the firmware on the OBI I left in the Phils from here, a few different times as a matter of fact. I even use an OBI for my home phone, hooked it into the house lines so all the phones in the house work from the OBI.

Vonage® Unlimited to Globe Philippines®

Apparently, "Unlimited" means <3000 min/month and no extended calls, etc. under their Reasonable Use Policy. So if you intend to use this plan to be "virtually there" with your loved one, be warned that your calls might get interrupted after 3 continuous hours and your account may eventually be suspended. In that case, they will give you the option of changing your plan to one where you pay $.09/min to the Philippines or terminating service.

I'm looking for another option...

MagicJack is the best...my husband and I using magicjack since 2009, he brought me magicjack to use to communicate everyday, we call each other 2 to 3 times a day with out extra charges, everybody in the US can buy it and send it to your spouse living in the Philippines, no charges also for US number.

I have to agree with this posting. My fiancee is living in Saudi Arabia and she has a magicjack. We talk multiple times a day and the quality is great.

I bought one and she took it to her parents house in the Philippines 2 weeks ago. Now we can all call each other for free!!! Well it's free for a year after buying the device for $50.

I also got 5 years service for her parents unit so when she's here in September we have 5 years of service.

magic jack users,,???? can you print out records of who you call?

You have an account on the web where you can print out the call logs.

If you think MJ is great you need to take a look at the OBI, its actually free and the sound quality runs circles around the MJ. + so much more! After discovering the OBI I tossed my MJ device and I still had years of pre-paid service left on it.

http://www.obihai.com/what-is.html

And for those wanting to print a call log, easily done from Google Voice.

My future sister-in-law told me about Viber for my andriod phone. Let's me call her phone in Phils and send text messages for free. Your in-laws just need a smart phone with a data plan.

If you are loooking just to call one number, try Globe Duo service for about $25 for 30 days you can set up payments here from the US online. It gives you unlimitted calling for the time period. Out of all the calling options I've used it's been the most cost effective when calling one number specifically. It will give you a number local to your area that will route the call to Globe Number in PI. Anybody who knows the number can call and get routed to PI, the only drawbacks are yiou must wait for the 30 day to run its course before you can renew and the service is good for the person in the US to Call PI, NOT PI to US. Try it out if you're curious, there arent any service contracts associated with Globe Duo
