Well, you can contact the British authorities and ask how you can drop your citizenship of that country (Kingdom, but currently a Queendom).

Once you have renounced the Queendom of Great Britain, you will then be stateless. If they are a kind people, they will probably consign you to one of the refugee camps they have.

...what?

thanks. yeh again, it was for a personal reason why I may wish to hand back that citizen to this...####### country :)

but overall, citzenship or not, seems the only way I can move to the US realistically is to get hitched huh? That wouldnt be fair really on all levels.

If you finally get here you'll soon stop thinking the UK is '#######' when you're having to find money to buy your own health insurance because you're self employed.

Since it seems you're going to be there a while enjoy a murder rate less than a quarter that of the US and massively more affordable education.

My friend started complaining the other day that they were putting maternity leave down to only 4 months.

A country cannot revoke someone's citizenship unless one has at least dual citizenship. For that reason the UK won't simply revoke your citizenship because you want them to. Suppose they would, it would still not be a reason for the USA to grant you US-citizenship. It would simply be a matter that would have nothing to do with the US. So, even if you would miraculously show up in the US stateless they will try very hard to get you back to the UK.

But why focusing on citizenship. See if there is any opportunity to go to the US on some other kind of VISA. Perhaps that might lead to a situation that qualifies you for a GC and eventually citizenship afterall.

While it's true that the *UK* won't accept a renunciation of citizenship unless the individual has another citizenship to fall back on, it's not true that a country can't allow a citizen to become stateless. Indeed, the United States (not a party to the 1961 UN Convention on Statelessness) advises citizens considering a renunciation of their US citizenship that such an action could leave them stateless:

"Persons intending to renounce U.S. citizenship should be aware that, unless they already possess a foreign nationality, they may be rendered stateless and, thus, lack the protection of any government."

http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_776.html

"If you are a British citizen, a British overseas territories citizen, a British overseas citizen, a British subject or a British national (overseas), you may give up your citizenship or status if you:

"- already have another citizenship or nationality; or

"- are going to get another citizenship or nationality after you have given up your British citizenship, British overseas territories citizenship, British overseas citizenship, British subject status or British national (overseas) status. ..."
