Thanks.

well yeh true about the student thing but I probably wouldnt have the funds. I actually work and have my own company (self employed) and looking to persue to work for a company in the US that I want but even that is difficult as its competitive and I dont have an extremely rare skillset (still specialist though) that the US can find from within the country rather than outside the country. *one still hopes*

Google investor visa. If you've got enough to qualify and start a business that is another option.

Got any US friends that can introduce you to a single friend? whistling.gif

LOL.

well I am starting to "communicate" with a woman but we are not at that stage yet. way not.

I am self employed over here and have a client base. currently have a client in the US whom I am working for but they are not going to sponser for a visa.

but yes I can take my company (its just me!) and move that to the US. but I would need.... a visa or something!

Hi.

if one wants to give up their UK citizenship (they were born and bred in the UK), then is it possible to gain for a US citizenship or would the same principals apply where you can only get a visa if a company employs you or you get married etc... ?

At this point, the person would not have any citizenship.

Thanks

A country cannot revoke someone's citizenship unless one has at least dual citizenship. For that reason the UK won't simply revoke your citizenship because you want them to. Suppose they would, it would still not be a reason for the USA to grant you US-citizenship. It would simply be a matter that would have nothing to do with the US. So, even if you would miraculously show up in the US stateless they will try very hard to get you back to the UK.

But why focusing on citizenship. See if there is any opportunity to go to the US on some other kind of VISA. Perhaps that might lead to a situation that qualifies you for a GC and eventually citizenship afterall.

thanks. yeh again, it was for a personal reason why I may wish to hand back that citizen to this...####### country :)

but overall, citzenship or not, seems the only way I can move to the US realistically is to get hitched huh? That wouldnt be fair really on all levels.

Certainly shouldn't do it just for the GC.

I just wanted to add, I'm sure you're frustrated with the way things are there, all my friends and family complain about it when I talk to them! It's been a few years since I've been back now so I'm a little out of touch with things but believe me, Britain isn't that bad. Took me moving here to realize it though. Everywhere has pluses and minuses but nowhere is perfect. ;)

I wish you luck. Hopefully you can find a way to get another type of visa that would entitle you to residency here. It's tough but it isn't impossible, just don't give up trying. Moving to another country is certainly a life changing experience and it will teach you many things about yourself and the world.

That's not true. There are plenty of stateless people. What about that Nazi guy that had his US citizenship revoked? There are political criminals that have been stripped of citizenship, and there are people whose countries dissolve and they have none.

I can see where you are coming from, for me I dream of one day up-rooting my totally American self and take my European wife back to to stay forever. Hopefully just traveling along Europe and enjoy the hundreds of cultures, languages, food and sites over there. I'm not saying the US is bad.....plenty to see here just that to be able to drive or travel short distances and have people with totally diffference outlook, languages food and everything else facinates me to no end. And to realize that the ability to travel without a car possible all over would be fun.

well exactly my point my friend.

:-)

because that is not me and makes no sense morally either.

Well, you can contact the British authorities and ask how you can drop your citizenship of that country (Kingdom, but currently a Queendom).

Once you have renounced the Queendom of Great Britain, you will then be stateless. If they are a kind people, they will probably consign you to one of the refugee camps they have.

In the meantime, forget entertaining any thoughts or even dreams in your deepest sleep that any country in the world will just admit you as a citizen because you do not like your own.

Of course there are stateless people but that is ussualy for complicated/exceptional reasons or if they are from certain countries that do not go by the Statelessness Reduction Convention which the UK does comply with. The UK will not revoke the OP's citizenship without the OP at least having dual citizenship.
