Thanks zentaco! We were thinking of driving to Seattle and flying from there - it's cheaper and I thought I heard on one of these forums that the Vancouver airport officers can be tough on you. It's good to hear that you've had no problems though. What did they ask you and how did you respond? I'm a little nervous about trying to cross the border to go down there so I appreciate hearing from you!

I drive across the border every other weekend to visit my fiance who lives near Seattle. Last Friday when I crossed I guess I was more nervous than I realized and the POE officer actually said to me "You don't need to strangle your seatbelt - it isn't going to run away!" :innocent: But he let me through. :)

They asked me what our jobs were (I flubbed at first and mixed them because we're both in the New Media field), when I last visited (apparently I said December of last year - I visited for thanksgiving and he was quick to tell me that it's in November - but I was in december for part of it and I was again getting mixed up with my last visit to his birth state which was in 2006 for christmas), as well as asking when we were getting married and who was moving (I was honest and said it was me who was moving). Then he looked through my passport and warned me about how an overstay would ruin my chances of getting a green card. :P I've never been down there longer than two weeks though and I brought some evidence of ties if necessary, but I didn't end up needing to show anything.

I am also waiting for an interview in Vancouver. Our application was recieved Jan 20. The congressman said that it shouldn't be more than a week or two more before we get approval. How quickly can you book your interview date usually?

Also can anyone tell me about their experiences crossing the border while waiting for their interview/visa? Any suggestions as to where to cross - is driving better than the Vancouver airport?

Thanks so much!

Well, I booked my interview at the Vancouver Consulate last week and it's for July 10th. There doesn't seem to be any delays to book appointments (I could have had one a few days later, but chose the 10th to give myself prep time).

Regarding crossing the border by car - my fiance lives just south of the border, so I having been driving across the border mimimum of weekly throughout the visa process. I have always just been up front when they ask questions and have never had an issue. I do keep any approvals and documents that show my status in the visa application process with me (suggested by a US border guard) in case they want to see them.
