It is not a suggestion, it is required by the USCIS that the intending immigrant have a civil surgeon medical completed. Nothing else is accepted.

No, your medical must be done by a civil surgeon unfortunately.

There is no two way about it. You have to get it done by a civil surgeon who is authorized to do them for USCIS. You can get this done pretty fast. When I was calling around to locate a civil surgeon for my medical, I got some who required an appointment, and some who would take me on a walk-in. The costs for those who accepted walk-in were slightly higher.

How 'quicker' you get it really depends on how 'fat' your wallet is.

But there is absolutely no going under the radar. In any case, if you take the form to your doctor or nurse, they will absolutely not sign it or fill it for you. They will tell you to locate a USCIS-approved Civil Surgeon. Period.

I think you just need to call around and try to find one that isn't too busy. There's a minimum of 2 days anyway, since you have to have PPD test and you have to go back to have it read. (Unless of course you already know it will be positive.)

No option. Call around for the cheapest CS for the physical. Go to your local Health Department and find out the cost for the shots. Ask about discounts or waivers (payment-wise) for students etc. There are some private organizations that offer grants to fund these immunizations. You will need the Varicella (chicken pox) shots, Tetanus & Diphtheria (aka "Td") shots, you do NOT need the flu one since it's out of season IIRC and the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) shots. Go and start getting this even before you go to the CS. If you are lucky like I was, you will not pay a penny for all these shots at the HD. Keep in mind these vaccines are a series (some are two/three doses - weeks apart) and the first series of shots for ALL vaccines either have to be administered on the same day or spaced 4 weeks apart. So if you screw up and just take one dose of one vaccine, they may not allow you to take any dose of any other vaccine until 28 days are up. I learned this the hard way.
