What's going to happen at POE?

I'm flying to the US at the end of this month with CR-1 visa and my POE is Los Angeles (LAX).

At the Embassy in Tokyo, I wasn't told anything and several days ago I received my visa and a huge sealed envelope. Are these two (passport and the sealed envelope) only thing I need to take with me? Is there anything I need at POE?

What will happen at POE? Will they take me to a separate room? Will they interview me? I don't know anything about it yet. Anyone with experience with POE please help! If there is a link on VJ I can read and learn, please let me know that as well.

Thanks in advance!

All you need is that package and the passport. You dont need anything else. Hopefully they will not have too many people at POE and it will go fast. My mom got her CR-1 visa two months ago and we were at the POE for about 3 hrs. All she did was turn the sealed package in to the officer and she was sent to wait. The immigration officer just took a bunch of packages from people, left for a very long time and when he came back he started calling people to come pick up their passports with their visas. Hopefully LAX has a better system but it is a huge airport so, you may experience something similar, but hopefully not. Congratulations!

thanks everyone for your reply!!

Whoa 3 hours wait? I definitely have to tell my husband about that. So the waiting time depends on how many people they're dealing with? I hope there won't be much people in line...

I can't figure out how to search a specific POE review on review page...I tried but....

When yer at the POE, the CBP officer will take yer packet, then ask you -

Why haven't you filled out yer timeline at VisaJourney.com ??

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

hehehe I just did it! yay!

The timeline asks A LOT of things and I gave up once because I don't remember some of the dates they ask. I tried it earlier today for the second time and filled it out as much as possible because I appreciate all the help I received from VJ and I want to give back:)

Thank you so so so much for filling out the timeline. You Rock, and Stuff.

There be customs and immigration stuff to do, and there are two queues, one for each.

How much time depends on the staff count at the POE in both areas, and then how many other people from other planes, are de-plane-ing in the same hour.

Expect 3 hours if many planes.

But - do read those POE reviews here (usually easier from a PC or laptop or even a big tablet, as handphones suck for VJ browsing)

Thanks. I'll read the reviews. I'm landing in LA around 6pm so the airport might be busy, but hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Our original POE from Tokyo to LAX was a piece of cake. The lady took the packet and we were on our way.

Going back to Tokyo and coming back with the AP was a different story taking almost 3 hours and including a interview!
