My husband has a good grasp of the English language, but there are some terms used in the N-400 application (a lot of them, actually) that are frankly *not* heard on an everday basis and despite having gone through the application many times together in mock interviews, there are times when he's forget some of the language & meaning.

I've told him if he feels like this during the interview itself to be honest, say he didn't understand & ask the IO to repeat the question another way.

I'm hopeful that most IO's take into account and surmise the applicant's English language level, but I'm wondering...to what degree?

Can anyone here share their experience with me? He's feeling very confident, but is naturally also nervous because it's such an important day....also, it'll be different since I can't be in the room with him for moral support.

Any tips, reassurances, experiences would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

Don't worry too much, everytime I had to go and get interviewed I got someone from another country being English his/her second language. Half of the time he/she asked me something I was like..." I'm sorry can you repeat the question...I'm sorry...WHAT???"

So like I said don't worry. If your husband doesn't understand what IO is asking just having him repeat the question. One more thing, just go over the application and make sure you know the answers to all the questions.

He knows the answers, he just get tripped up sometimes on some of the words when he's nervous/tired/stressed which I imagine he'll be a combination of the day of the interview.

Hoping that the IO is as nice as the one we had for the Greencard interview......

One more question....

How would you compare the citizenship interview to the AOS interview? Better/harder/worse/easier?
