It's neither of those. The fee for filing the I-129F petition is $340.

The $240 is the fee for the visa.

Incorrect. :bonk:

The lowered fee is for the visa fee, not the petition.

Yea its definetly not 240,,wow thats what u pay before your interview for your "visa" aka sticker in your passport

Don't forget to add additional fees if there are children involved. My fiance petitioned for my and my two children. We are looking close to $6000 in fees and expenses just to get past the AOS.

(That doesn't include travel costs or the moving truck)

But Love (L) is worth it!! :D

So now maybe you now know how much fee for the petition is...do you know where you are going to send it? Your original post links to the Department of State website but I-129F petitions are adjudicated by USCIS.

You might want to study this process a little bit more before you send off your documents and your money.

This is the bare minimum I would suggest for your K1.

$340 Submittal Fee- Check or Money order made out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Cover Letter

I-129F- Not necessary but suggested to add a 1 page attachment for question 18 explaining the circumstances of meeting within the past two years, sign and date I-129 f and attachment.

G-325A- filled out by the US Citizen signed and dated

G-325A filled out by the foreign fiance signed and dated

G-1145- Optional but suggested

Birth Certificate- US Citizen

Birth Certificate- Foreign Fiance

Letter of Intent- US Citizen

Letter of Intent- Foreign Fiance

Passport Style Photo- 1 of US Citizen

Passport Style Photo- 1 of Foreign Fiance

Copy of your Passport- Front page and Exit / Entry Stamps. Make sure to make clear copies of Exit/Entry stamps.

Proof of having met in last 2 years - Copies of all airline boarding passes, train passes, itineraries, hotel receipts etc

Photos- Photos of you and fiance together. If possible include photos of different locations and clothing. Photos with you, fiance, fiances friends and family together.

If applicable- Copy of final Divorce Decree or Death Certificate for the US Citizen and/or foreign fiance if either has been previously married and marrige ended due to divorce or death. Include for all previous marriges.

If applicable- Section C Question 2, if applicable provide certified copies of all court and police records showing the charges and dispositions for any specified conviction(s) (in accordance with the IMBRA). See section 9 of the I-129f instructions for more information . Personally never had to deal with this so seeking further advice in this matter is highly suggested.

Make 2 extra copies of entire packet. I like to scan and make a digital copy of entire packet. One for your records/safe keeping and one that will be sent to your fiance for her interview.

Triple check everything for mistakes, signatures, dates or any discrepancies. Answer all questions, put None or N/A where applicable.

Mail completed packet to USCIS Dallas Lockbox. Send USPS Priority mail with return receipt requested / delivery confirmation to:

Sorry I accidentally hit send before ready and it won't let me edit. To clarify Xerox copies of Birth Certificates are sufficient. Also include in packet

Proof of ongoing relationship- Copies of land line / cell phone bills, appropriate letters and emails, stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof, Chat logs from Skype,Yahoo etc. , Money remittance receipts such as Western Union or Xoom, Engagement ring receipt etc. Basically any thing you have to prove your relationship is ongoing.

This is not necessary for the petition. It will be necessary for the visa interview.

The petition needs to prove that you are:

- free, willing and able to marry.

- one person is a US citizen

- the two people have met in person in the last two years.

Also, the beneficiary's birth certificate is not required for the petition either. That will be provided at the interview.

I am confused.. I am ready to send my k1 packet, finally got everything arranged, but want to know is the fee I send $350 or $240?

http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/03/187114.htm

to file K1 I129F is $340

then after your I129F is approved then fiance Visa fee is $240 you need to pay before interview...goodluck

(avoid being confused filing fee and visa fee are both different fees)

From K1 filing to Green Card will cost $2000 +/-

Budget accordingly.

Wow, I definitely had no idea. Thank you for the heads up. I definitely will start planning and budgeting it all out ahead of time. It's going to be a little harder for me since I'm a full-time student, but anything to be with my fiancee and make sure we're not separated like this EVER again.

Finally being with your loved one = priceless

Amen to that!

The reason I suggest adding the beneficiary's birth certificate to the K1 packet is to avoid problems or delays down the road during the interview. One big reason is so I can cross reference the information from the birth Certificate to the forms that are being filled out so there are no glaring discrepancies. As were all aware of Birth Certificates especially in the Phillipines, can have numerous mistakes . Often times the Petitioner will have no idea what was on the Birth Certificate and fills out the forms and later receives a RFE. I believe having the Birth Certificate ready and available before starting the paperwork can be benificial. It is still my suggestion to anyone starting the process. I know others may disagree but I also believe its benificial to include some proof of ongoing relationship. Again probably not absolutely necessary but I believe benificial. The chances are you have it already , why not include it. I should have added that all original documents that were copied will need to be sent to your fiance before interview. Keep up with proof of your ongoing relationship by copying emails, letters, money remittance receipts, chat logs , phone bills etc, Make sure she has plenty of pictures and proof of your relationship available for interview. Send all this to her before interview . Send it all with your Affidavit of support I-134 , letter from employer,A few recent pay check stubs, recent w-2 and tax return,Copy of your NOA2, New letters of Intent to marry signed and dated now close to interview. This is my second time through the process and have several family members who have been through it. Often overlooked but very important, make sure your fiance knows as much about you as possible. It has been similar for all my family members at the interview. It's better to be overprepared and not need something. Than to need something and not have it. Just my experiences. This time I'm going to the interview. I'm sure it makes no difference but it will give my girl support.
