When to appy to social security ?

my husband just got here yesterday. I don't know if he is able to apply for social security yet or he has to wait? if he does how long?

Did he check off yes on the DS-230 for the SSA to assign a SSN for him and issue the card?

Yes I did, but I been reading sometimes u check but they don't send. Therefore, I just want to make sure

Okay, if you checked off yes, then you have to wait 3 weeks from POE. Sometimes it comes in the mail, sometimes it doesn't. If after 3 weeks it hasn't arrived in the mail, that's when you should go to a local SSA office to apply in person. That's what I had to do myself. After 3 weeks from my POE, my SSN still hadn't arrived in the mail, so I went to the local SSA office here in town. Took about 10-15 minutes to apply, and then 10 days later, my SSN arrived in the mail.
