Hi Guys,

it would be great if someone could help me out here.

My wife is a US citizen /national and recently our petition (for me and our daughter) got approved , to my understanding now we have to complete ds-230 , ds 2001 and I-864(Affadvit of support) and send them back to the london embassy and get our medical done, we have already filled ds230 and sent it back, just waiting for police certificate to arrive so we can complete ds 2001 and send it to the embassy. my question is in regards to the I-864. my wife lives with me in the uk and does not work so we are using my wife's brother in law in states to be the joint sponsor to full fill the income requirement.

Now does the joint sponsor need to send I-864 directly to the embassy or he sends it to us and we take it along with us on the day of interview? or we need to send it to the embassy well before the interview?

And do we need to send all the orignial documents in support of our visa application before the interview or just need to take it along with us on the day of interview?

one final question? on i-864 form it asks if the sponsor is us national or us citizen ? whats the difference?

please if anyone can answer these questions that would be great.

The letter says ptI/II ('An appointment for your interview will not be scheduled until we are in receipt of forms, DS-230 Part I/II, checklist DS-2001, and have received the results of your medical), but the embassy website on the link they give in letter says pt I ('Complete the Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, Form DS-230-Part 1 for each family member applying for a visa') and no mention of pt II!

The usual conflicting information basically!

Any experiences/suggestions?

Do you have your LND case number yet? If you do, you can schedule the medical any time you like. The only things that need to be mailed in are the DS-230 and the DS-2001. The I-864 and all of your other documents you need to take to the interview with you. You need the police certificate for the medical though.

You can send either both or just part 1 and take part 2 to the interview with you. It really doesnt matter.

Thank you for this superb resource! Can I ask, looking at your signature timeline it seems that you got case number really quickly following I-130 approval. My husband and I have been waiting 9 weeks for his case number arrive. Do you think this is normal? I am starting to freak out a bit! The London Consulate told me via email that the IVU sent my husband a letter on 28 December but as of 8 January, it still hasn't arrived at our London address.

From what i have been reading on here, it seems the NOA2 comes a LOT quicker but the case number is really slow now compared to when i filed. So it is probably quite normal. Just hold out another week. Mail is probably pretty slow what with the holidays etc.

Just a general note for anybody who wants to ask me something, i tend not to check on particular threads any more so if you quote me or message me, i will get an email so i will respond in a more timely manner!

Thanks Holly. I think the case number got lost in transit. I've emailed to ask the Consulate to resend it. So far not response. I will wait another week and then try calling the visa line again. Fun!

Definitely. It's funny -- on the face of it, it's a fairly straightfoward process. But the waiting is just so stressful. Who knew doing nothing could produce so much anguish?!

I agree! I would be waiting for the mail every day and stressing over things i could do nothing about. Then once you get to the US, its a bit of an anticlimax.

Haha i dont blame you! Honestly i had never truly felt nervous until that day i went for my interview. Turned out to be pretty easy and went smoothly because i had spent to much time preparing. The coach journey down there was the worst ever!

Yes and no! Yes because i was approved, no because i paid extra to get an earlier National Express coach (its a £5 fee to change to an earlier one for anybody who is interested) and the toilet door lock was broken and i was sitting right next to it. I have never in my life seen so many people sitting on/using a toilet in one day before! Mentally scarred!
