Hello

I just want to get an insight about this situation and I hope you will help me......

My family has a history of lung diseases (uncle- asthma, auntie- pneumonia, father- emphysema). Fortunately I don't have any of these except mild scoliosis but its not required for any therapy according to the doctor. I already work for nine years and ANNUALLY, we undergo intensive medical/physical examination, just to make sure that we will start each year of work healthy and physically fit. Because of this, I know I don't have TB, history of TB or any other lung disease even when I was a kid. I still have the comprehensive result of these exams even x-ray films.

Is there a possibility that they will require me to undergo sputum test (for 8 weeks) just because of family history?

Please share me your opinion. I will highly appreciate it.

Thanks!

If there are any spots on the x-ray, they will most likely require you to take the sputum test. If you have documentation there is a chance they will let you slide, but if there is something on your older x-rays, be prepared to take the test and having to wait for the culture results.

For St. Luke's the x-ray they take is the final authority.

I doubt it. If you lung XRay is clear there shouldn't be a problem. They are really only looking for TB, and that has nothing to do with your family history. I doubt they will even ask much about any of those other diseases in your family history. They are only concerned about communicable diseases, asthma and the others you mentioned aren't communicable, so they should pose no problem. They only care about your immediate health, not any health problems your family might have.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure you will be fine.

You can bring recent x-rays, but they will still take their own. Better to just leave them behind, if your x-rays show you're clear they won't believe it. If they think they see something in your's, that is the only time they're going to start believing it. I had my wife get a physical when we first applied for the K-1. She would get persistent coughs regularly and if she did have TB, we wanted to start treatment early if she had it. They found nothing on the x-rays or a sputum test but did tell her to quit burning the grass they cut on the lawn. Her persistent cough went away never to return after that. She still worried like crazy that something would show up in the medical, so I guess its natural to worry about it. You've been through your own doctors, you're going to be OK in your medical, just like my wife was. Also I told her not to bring her recent x-rays, as they could only cause confusion and problems.

Agree I had my Fiancee bring her daughters Xray and TB skin test result and I think it just made them that much more suspicious about your health. They made the daughter have Xray and skin test again!

No, not from family history. A suspicious chest x-ray will warrant a sputum test.

I agree with the other comments suggesting not bringing your own x-ray and TB skin test results.

Good luck with your medical! Best wishes!

If they see scar in your xray no matter how it got there, you will undergo sputum culture that delayed your visa process for almost 3 months.

Honestly, I don't find their facility sanitizing for sputum test and the way they acquired specimen for sputum culture. Most likely caught the disease than prevent it.

I have undergone the sputum test and culture due to an old scar with my chest x-ray. I have no history of TB or any family history of such. It will depend on the x-ray findings. Bring the films with you for comparison, but I doubt that they will honor it.

After two months delay, I am now cleared and onto my interview next week.
