Hello guys,

I'm new to this forum, want to share my situation with you, may be one of you could help me, I came to the state on F--1 visa, to do my MBA, while studying I got my pharmacist license, that allows me to practice in the state. It was a long journey for me, but I have succeed with high grades in all my exams. I was hearing that pharmacists jobs are hot in US, and that I can find a job easily, that's why I went through the whole long process which cost me a lot of time and money. Now I'm job hunting, and I can't find any one who is willing to sponsor my H1-B visa, some of the employers got interested, but once I revealed my visa status, they lost their interest. I'm now desperate and don't know what to do. Do you have any advice?

Thanks for you all

Employment sponsorship is expensive.

How are you currently in the US? Is your visa still valid? What visa did you enter on?

Good luck

In the current economic climate, most employers are able to find qualified US candidates without the hassle of getting their lawyer to apply for a visa. I would say your best bet is not to look at shop pharmacies, but hospitals or even better, large chemical/ medical companies such as Bayer who may need research pharmacists.

Doesn't your Uni provide career guidance?

it does, but my problem is with the visa sponsoring, one of the pharmacies, was welling to sponsor me, ,but when the pharmacist asked her lawyer about the process, he was negative and told her it would cost her more than 8,000, and it would be a headache for her! he was not an immigration lawyer, that's why. Do you know if I can hire a lawyer instead of her? and communicate with him instead of her? And also, can you give me suggestions for a pharmaceutical companies in US?

The cost is a bit on the high side but not unrealistic, they cost upwards of $5000.

The employer must pay for the lawyer and processing.

Once you graduate you're eligible for one year OPT. On OPT you can work any job related to your field of study. Most students I know in the US who ended up staying after graduation, worked during their OPT period and the employer eventually sponsored them for H1-1b. OPT is a natural bridge between F-1 and H1-b.

ya I know that I can work on my OPT, but I need a position that relates to the business, I was thinking about applying for managerial positions in a pharmacy, may be by that I can use my OPT because I'm doing MBA. and for sure it's not easy to find such a position too.

There is not much you can do, you cannot hire your own lawyer. Most companies will use their own lawyers as for your application company has to disclose lot of their details including financial details and they might not want to give it directly to you or your lawyer.

8000 would be kinda on the max side I would say it would be between 5000-8000.

You can try managerial position as well and it would be the same with the given market condition and cost of H1 and restriction from immigration on H1 lot of employeer stay away from H1 process.

Managerial position at a pharmacy sounds like a good way to somehow merge your major and the pharmaceutical field. Does your school have an international student adviser? It should. Mine was invaluable in helping me at least narrow down fields in which to apply.

Either way, OPT should be your first priority. It gets rid of the sponsorship hurdle for now. Plus, most employers are a lot more helpful if you already work for them and have results to show.

I had an F-1 visa a few years ago, and graduated with plenty of foreign students who are still in the US on H-1b visas. They all have one thing in common; Their "way in" was a year of OPT, and then getting sponsored by the same employer.
