I have recently lost my baby and it was very disheartening to not have my husband be able to bury his son. I doubt that he will be able to get a visit visa due to his nationality (he is Pakistani). I was very ill during my pregnancy as well and I believe I would have been able to qualify for a fast track if our visa number was available.

I wanted to know if contacting a congressman/congresswoman with my situation will be beneficial? I have contacted Carolyn McCarthy. Does anyone recomment contacting any other congressman in NY?

I am extremely depressed at this point due to my loss. Our priority date is AUgust 2010, so it is still a while till we can get an interview.

Please respond with any insight. I am in a very difficult position right now.

Have you thought of going home?

You will have AP which can not be expedited.

What does AP stand for?

What can be expedited in general?

AP is administrative processing which is required of people in Pakistan. It can take a few months to a year and there is no possible expedite for this. It is put into effect after the interview takes place.

If you have a reason for expedite once the visa number is available, you can file, but the loss of a baby several month prior is unlikely to be a good enough reason, I am very sorry.

There is no specific timeframe for AP. It's extra security checks that most people from certain countries go through, and usually lasts at least a few months, but we have had a few couples here on VJ for whom it lasted over a year. On the other hand, for some others it only lasted a few weeks. A lot will depend on the area he lives in, his family, and how common his name is.

Thank you for replying everyone.

AP really sucks :(. Mostly its from 3 months to 6 months I believe. AP cannot be expedited, is that correct? Assuming there is a genuine reason to expedite once the visa number is available. Will a congressman/woman be able to help in that case then?

No

otherwise that would be a sticky.
