Ok so last month we were married and she has already gotten her social security number (under her maiden name) so this week we will go and get that changed to her new name. Now we will start the AOS process but I was wondering if there was any part of that we can file without the fee, or we will have to wait another 6 weeks. Hoping we can at least start the work permit part. Thanks

No, the fees need to be paid because the paperwork needs to be filed and biometrics need to be taken and paid for (which is part of the $1070 fee). Work and travel permits are FREE when filed WITH the AOS paperwork, but you must pay if you file them separately.
