VJ is in need of a serious make-over

Personally, I think the bigger issue is with people creating timelines and never updating them. This just throws of the trending information and causes undue frustration for everyone else.

I went through this process once. Even back then, many individuals (myself included, from time to time) had poor practices with respect to keeping their timelines up to date. I do not recall ever being frustrated by this. Of course, this was a time when Facebook and smart phones were less prevalent than they are today... perhaps that has degraded the ability of the membership as a whole to process information not presented to them in a pretty graph?

Life is complicated. Details are important. That should not frustrate anyone.

Anyone notice that the participation rates in OT and PR have dropped off? It looks like in PR there are only 4-5 active threads a day, where as say two years ago it would have had 20-30.

The P&R forum doesn't exactly promote activity. It's fun to have intelligent discussions about the important topics, but it's nearly impossible without some insult flinging and personal attacks if you dare to disagree. From what I've seen, anyway, but that could just be me.

Intelligence discussion isn't really necessary for high levels of activity. There used to be a lot more activity in the past and the conversation wasn't intelligent, just much more varied.

In the past, you could be a leftie and you had backup. Today, you're out there all alone with the right wing sharks

I know, right? I can only comment on the random racist and homophobic posts so much before I just give up.

That's one of the reasons why I'm suggesting a serious make-over.

I would assist but watching you try to beat off the sharks is too much fun.

 It's alright, I think I've learned my lesson. I'll let them be, so they can sit around and +1 each other's hate speech.

Have you ever read a Facebook political thread on the HuffPo or WSJ pages?

You don't know what you're talking about.

Why use those examples? There are plenty of other examples where participation is kept on topic and derailment is not tolerated.

You're the one who thinks linking user accounts to Facebook profile is some kind of magic cure to whatever you think ails VJ.

I'm merely pointing out (using those two very high profile examples) that just isn't so.

I never suggested it as a fix-all. All that it would do is deter those who join this site for ulterior motives. A lot of sites now offer you to sign up and sign in through your FB account. This isn't anything out of left field - it is now the standard practice and VJ hasn't gone through any major upgrades for awhile now. It's time to get up-to-date with the rest of the blogosphere.

My main question that I haven't seen answered is HOW would it deter those who join this site for ulterior motives? They would just make false FB accounts and sign in through those.
