Trying to get Mexican BF here (Affidavit form sufficient enough?)

Hi there,

My boyfriend is Mexican (what luck I have!) and so, of course, I'm trying to get him to the U.S. to meet my family and what not. He is a musician in Mexico so has no real "formal" income and doesn't have much for savings. I'm wondering if the Affidavit of Support form makes any difference when applying for the Tourist visa or if it's completely irrelevant once they see that the Mexican doesn't have any savings or formal income. My mom said she'd be willing to fill out the form and she's the Assistant Dean at a prestigious private university (not sure if that makes a difference either)

Please advise! :)

J-Vo, the Affidavit of Support does not apply for tourist visas. Unfortunately there is no way to 'sponsor' someone on a tourist visa. His best chance to come visit your parents is to apply for a tourist visa, at which point he should conveniently not mention that he is coming to visit his girlfriend and her family. If he has no formal income but files his taxes, his tax returns may be used as evidence of income. If he has absolutely nothing than it will be virtually impossible for him to get a visa.

And when he attempts to cross the border, where does he tell the POE officer he is going to stay and visit with no money? Or does he simply say he's got a gig?

Is he coming on a P Visa?

You just gave the op advice on how to lie to get a tourist visa, now you're asking about a "P" visa? And weren't you just in another thread explaining how important it is to tell the truth to a poster who got caught lying when trying to get his visa?

You brought up him having a gig - in which case he would need a P visa.

Have a great day!!

My mention of him "having a gig" was completely tongue in cheek based on your advice to the op to lie in order to get his visa, but you knew that.

No one told him to lie per se. He doesn't have to volunteer information if he's not asked. If asked what he's doing in the US, and he says visiting, no problem. If asked if he has a gf and he says no. That's a problem.

The op was told to omit the true intentions of his trip to the US, that's lying where I come from.

..hmmm..."conveniently not mention...etc."....in other words, lie? Why is this the correct ethical way in which to obtain an object of TRUST (a tourist visa)? So you are saying it's OK to lie when you want something that you might not be able to get in an 'above board' (i.e., honest) way? Wow.....I am truly disappointed...I thought American citizens had more ethics and patriotism than this...but apparently there are those who think it's OK to try and pull a fast one....of course, the OP will be the first one whining when said BF's attempt to evade the truth is revealed, and then, when his credibility swiftly shrinks to zero, she will asking about trying to use outside influence (congressmen/senator letters, letters from her mother, the mail man, the dog catcher) to try and overrule those darn VOs who caught her BF lying....perhaps the OP would care to explain the ethics and logic of her not-so-novel approach....? :bonk:

Vacation time for your Parents!

They can go and see him in Mexico.
