Is it possible to be declined due to results of your medical exam (i.e. if you had all the required shots, but something was wrong with your health)? What is something that would cause this?

I used to be really worried as well that they might decline me for my bad vision. But as far as I have gathered, you can only be denied if you are a possible threat to others, such as have syphilis, tuberculosis or HIV or maybe certain mental issues (and as for the syphilis and tuberculosis only if it is untreated I believe).

Maybe others who have already had their medical exam can enlighten us further. :)

Don't worry about the medical examination it's a standard test, many employer's request medical exams prior to employment. More to determine the risk for medical insurance.

I have heard of someone that was denied visa because of medical condition so yes it could be an issue. However not for common problems like someone mentioned vision unless you are nearly blind. The main purpose of this is so the beneficiary does not become dependent on the state through disability programs.

They can delay your interview by withholding the results - this has happened many times.

If the doctor finds something questionable on the Xray or during the exam they have the power to withhold your results until you see a specialist / get confirmation that you are not seriously ill.

If you have any previously known illness make sure you bring documents from your personal doctor along with treatment notes / medication notes etc.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

The biggest risk is that they find something suspicious on your Xray and make you take a long test that can delay your interview by months. In general there aren't a lot of things that will cause you to get denied. HIV, TB, those yes. But even with TB if they find you have it, they will require treatment before you can enter the US.

I assume that if you are HIV positive you will never get a visa.

But they are not looking to make sure you have perfect health. They are looking for a very few specific things that can cause problems. If you feel your health is good, then don't worry about the medical.

Thanks for the replies, I'm just afraid something might pop up that I am unaware of. I'm of good health, thank God, but I haven't had an x-ray in forever so I'm a bit worried. I think I might book a check up with my family doctor soon, to ease my mind a bit, and make sure I am ok so I'm not so stressed for the Medical exam.

Smoking Is A Issue ??

No.

They are expecting you to be a human being. Human beings have health problems sometimes, or bad habits, or whatever. You don't have to be perfect. They want to make sure that you are not risking the lives of other people with various communicable diseases.

Actually, since 2009 foreigners trying to visit or immigrate to the US are not required to have an HIV test, so if someone is HIV positive he/she can get a visa, since it will not interfere with their immigration.

The vision test is to detect trachoma, a contagious eye disease, and others. its not about your eyesight.
