I found the HCC health insurance to be the best also, they are backed through Lloyd's of London, they are the same company that does the Atlas insurance I spoke of earlier.

I don't mean to be a negative Nellie BUT.. Your fiance will have to pay the bill until you are allowed to work and find a job. Is he going to be willing to do this for you when you arrive? Please try talking all this out before you leave your home. It is a huge commitment. Good luck with your journey.

Are you not in the US yet? tell your fiance that the k1 visa is not a visa so you can come here to get t know each other, it is a visa that you are required to get married within 90 days of entry into the US.

It sounds like you may be in for a lot of hurt in this "marriage"... You can already see the warning signs, right?

Lovers don't finally meet somewhere.
They're in each other all along.”

Thanks!

Like I said, his insurance would not let him add me. They changed the plan on him though...

It'd be helpful if you could tell me other options! thanks!

He probably cannot add you as a fiance but marriage is a change in circumstance which allows you to be added to the plan as a dependent spouse. You will need a copy of the marriage document. I was able to add my husband before he even moved here. I sent in proof he had been on NHS so he had previous credible coverage, a copy of the marriage and they added him with the next paycheck.

Social security will be based on the highest pay periods for you or your spouse once you are able to collect. It is automatically deducted from your paycheck unless you are self employed.

Thank you!

My fiance's health insurance changed the plan and now they want him to pay $1000 every month to cover me. So I don't think I will try to be added to his insurance even in the future. I am planing on getting a job so hopefully I can get one then. But for now, what you suggested seems reasonable. I will take a look at the website! I appreciate it!

btw, it is so nice of you to think of your wife and take care of her insurance stuff. My fiance has no interest. He wouldn't even try to see what is available out there. I know I should be able to take care of this on my own anyways but still it makes me sad to see him being unhelpful. Especially since I have no idea where to start looking... :(

Sorry, I had to vent it out.

Oops, sorry, missed the update. I've never heard of paying that much more per month to add a spouse. That seems unreasonably high and I work for an insurance company. Hopefully you can get your own policy if that's the case. By the way, I originally added my hubby to my plan but now his is lots better so I am on his. Once you get a job you may be able to get your own plan.

$1000 is outrageous! At my husband's old job they wanted $400 a month to add me to his BCBS plan. It turned out cheaper for me to get an individual plan with BCBS, it was about $120 p/m. :bonk:

I agree. Based on what the op has said so far about her fiance being resistant to this whole idea of her coming here and getting married, I'm suspecting that the fiance is exaggerating the cost to avoid the issue. My wife and I also ended up getting separate single plans once she started working, it saved us approx. $200 per month opposed to one family plan.

Thanks everyone for the comments!!!

I really appreciate every piece of advice!

I will look at the insurance that some of you mentioned. As far as my fiance is concerned, we fight a lot but the bottom line is we care about each other. He has mentioned to me that he will help me with this insurance stuff. He was just frustrated with the whole process of me moving out and start living together... which I can understand.

Thanks again for the great advice!!! I appreciate it!!

we got fiance visa. we are getting married for sure but he just tries to hang on to his anti-marriage idea.

Fight a lot too? Sounds like he's giving the kind of commitment his other girlfriends will appreciate.
