I am trying to submit an EOR along with my I129-F submission. Regarding the way we communicate, is it okay to write similar to below? Or am i being too detailed? BTW, my fiancee is from Shanghai. Thanks, VJ forum! This place has been great help!

Dear Consulate,

xxx ...

We communicate verbally via MSN Messenger and email in Chinese and English. Sometimes when we cannot understand/read some words, we would use the “Google Translate” website to translate. On the phone, we talk in Chinese (Mandarin) and little English. I am not totally fluent in Mandarin, but I have taken 5 years of Mandarin classes when I was little and 1 year of Mandarin in college. However, I am fluent (conversant) in Cantonese, which often; words have similar pronunciation sounds that makes it easy to understand Mandarin.

xxx ...

Your Truly,

Welcome to the forum.

Is it an Evolution of Relationship letter, or a letter about your linguistics training/schooling/experience?? Keep it short and sweet, and true to purpose. The space given on the I-129F application for the "How you met" statement is indicative of how much information to provide.

Good luck on your visa journey.

No, it's for the evolution of relationship letter. I followed Darnell's example (btw, thanks!), but needed little advice/opinion on the "how we communicate" part.

Thanks! Yes, for the "how you met" statement, i kept it short. I basically said we met online through a co-worker, met her in person few months later, and started an intimate relationship.

i think this section (emphasis on section) for the EOR is fine. You might want to add, 'We practice Shanghai Opera for two hours every Friday evenings, my accent has improved much'

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

I like the opera part, maybe it would help my accent.

IIRC, there are at least 5 different 'city' opera types.

Which one does yer lass know?

If she doesn't know any of them - practicing karaoke (since she lives with you most of the time) face to face is also useful.

You have karaoke machine, la, yes?

If my Chinese was half as good as her English I would be fine. Yanjuan say no one will under stand me, Struggling with Rosetta stone a mental thing I guess. I sang opera in LA a lot younger then. Music major who became Law Enforcement 40 years later still fighting organized crime.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Then you have no excuse.

You can sing.

You can read music.

You should be up to 6000 words of Mandarin now, because of your prior training.

bu hao...
