Well then, our advice was worth something...as you discovered, there are a lot of variables, many of which most people don't know...getting visas for kids, for friends from certain countries or under certain conditions is far more complex than sending an invitation letter and filling out a couple of forms...because our laws are completely different than most other countries, and we, as Americans, enjoy relative freedom of travel to other countries, and our visa process to the extent it exists in those other countries, is largely a formality combined with a small sum of money.

But thanks to the not inconsiderable abuse by untold thousands of people who have lied, cheated or scammed their way to the US, they leave behind for their fellow countrymen a giant hurdle to overcome when they apply for visas, and find out quickly that their credibility is often cast into deep doubt the moment they step up to the window.

Now before some of you respond by saying...'gosh, that's terrible...those VOs must be mean heartless people!'...well....put yourself in their shoes for a moment...imagine you just arrived in, say, Colombia, and through initial training and a bit of experience, quickly determined that certain stories seemed to be retold...and then, after more investigation, you found out that out of say, 100 similar stories, only about 4 people actually lived up to that story....how 'generous' or how much benefit of the doubt would you be giving? Very darn little. Just like that old saying...'fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice,..shame on me!'...VOs do not like their trust to be violated, and thanks to extensive computer data bases, and other electronic tools, the 'memory' of such trust violation lingers on...making even tougher for the next person who 'quisiera a conocer a Sr. Mickey'....

That's the truth! So once I informed her mom of what I'd learn all of a sudden she didn't want her to come! After all the money spent now she has a change of heart ugh! Idk I am in a state of confusion and i can understand everything tht I are saying bc it's said but I know that Colombia has a high fraud! I learned this during my info pass at an uscis office! Sometimes I wonder what have I gotten myself in!

Well, good you found out something before more problems occurred.

A very common situation prevails in Colombia (although they are not alone)...one parent makes his/her way to the US (usually overstaying a tourist visa) and then, a couple of years later, the family wants to be reunited...often the left behind Colombian parent reaches out to a 'family friend' or distant relative, first asking about 'sponsoring' a trip to Disneyland for their kids....then...if that seems to go over well, next, the left behind parent starts making gentle noises about wanting to accompany their children to Miami 'para conocer a Sr. Mickey juntos...'...and if they manage to obtain visas (which is becoming more and more rare), you will be left standing at the airport alone, wondering where they went....and where they went is to join up with their illegal spouse or SO, and guess who paid for the airline tickets? Yep. You.

Now before the sputtering complaints start raining down on my head from Colombians who think I've lost my mind, well, I did not say that every case is like the one described, but...like or lump it, a fair percentage turn out that way.

My husbands! I told the mom that I'd take her to france and she flipped on me! Saying I want you to take her to usa! That's her dream! Ugh idk

Odd how Colombians don't want to go to EuroDisney in Paris, but have an overwhelming urge to visit the one in Orlando......I'd say there's a hidden message (that is becoming more and more obvious!).

Disney is Disney, so why the USA rather than France? Same experience maybe a different culture. So do you suspect the child's missing father is in the USA? The missing link? What does hubby have to say now?

How do she know it won't be the same, has she been to either? Mickey and Minnie will be there and there will be plently of children. Also there will be people from all over the world there, just like in Orlando, Fla.

Yeah that's what I am thinking now! My in laws got visas in 2010 from letters id wrote to the embassy and now they are currently here in USA! Have been here for a few months now

Oh btw they all hate me after they recieved their visa! My husband is not like them! We don't speak at all with the in laws! I only communicate with the niece and her mom

That's what my mom said

She said I know your good heart but you were used once and if u continue to help the niece then you will be used again! I said mom I don't think that's their intentions and she said open my eyes! It clearly is their intentions to get the little girl here!!

But from the little girls mom reaction I'm starting to think twice
