Didn't know where to post this so...

My daughter was just born this morning in Japan. I am in the US Navy and am here in the states. My wife is in Japan with her family. I need to get the Consular Report of Birth Abroad paperwork together. One of the requirements is " Evidence of presence" of the US citizen parent in the states prior to the birth. I was looking at what kind of MILITARY DOCUMENTS I could use. The Embassy site says high school transcripts, and pay stubs. My DFAS pay stubs don't show any kind of address on them but I read that any military paperwork showing you were under orders abroad will work as proof.

My question is... Can I use my prior orders, which showed me going to Japan and staying there for three years, as proof of my "presence" in the US. Once again sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place but I do have a CR-1 pending... Thanks in advance.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

If you have been a US citizen since birth, it should be easy to prove you have been in the USA for 5 years (2 years after age 14). How about tax filings, old leases, drivers licenses?

In my experience, the embassy in Tokyo is not particularly strict about checking this. I had two children born in Japan and in neither case did they even ask for any proof that I had spent the requisite time in the US, aside from my passport.

Just to be safe I would suggest sending a copy of your driver's license or maybe a copy of a school record (high school or college transcript). That will be more than sufficient. My advice is to not over-worry this one.

I presume you'll also want to get a passport for your daughter at the same time? If so, unless you are planning to be at the embassy in person, send her a notarized statement of consent for your daughter to receive a passport.

Thanks, yes I will be sending the notarized consent form to my wife along with military orders, which I have read consistutes physical pressence in the US even though I was stationed overseas, along with my actually California ID card and color copies, I might send a color copy of my passport as well....wish me luck!!!
