very confused!!!:

As I am sure you all know it is very difficult finding all this money and the fact that we have to do all this on just one income is virtually impossible! I am so eager to work and have also got a job lined up for when the paperwork is done.

I have read so much info i have it coming out of my ears but not only that there is so much conflicting info too!

Please can some one clear this up for me.

Once my I-845 and accompanying forms have been filed can i work??

I have read that the forms are sometimes completed in different stages, is this true? the current waiting time for the I-458 is now 5 months, will i have to wait the same amount of time for the I-765, or can it come sooner?

Has anyone recently been through this stage, is the waiting time on the USCIS correct?

thank you so much in advance for any help/info

Leonie

Hi, You can't work until you have your Green Card. The I-485 is taking from 4-5 months from what I have read on VJ. As for the I-765, If you will fill in your Timeline info it will show you a date estimate at the bottom of the page. I filed 5/29, so I know how you feel. Good Luck!

I found this link http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/180237-is-a-k1-authorized-to-work-without-an-ead/

The current waiting time for the EAD (I-765) is here:

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/eadstats.php

Once you have your EAD you can work. You don't have to wait for your green card.

For the Green Card (I-485), the time varies wildly depending on whether your case is sent to your local office for interview, or to California Service Center. If transferred to CSC the current waiting time is roughly 7-9 months. If you are transferred to your local office for interview, you can check your estimated wait time here

Once you get your EAD/AP combo card you can work and travel outdside the USA. Once you get your green card the EAD/AP card will no longer be valid. It is taking roughly 3 months for EAD/AP and 6 months or longer for the green card. The information already provided to you is incorrect in that they are saying that you cannot work until you have your green card. When you submit your paperwork make sure you file the I485 Adjustment of Status, I765 Employment Authorization Document, I131 Travel Document. As long as you file all these together you will only have to pay for the Adjustment of Status as the others are free when filed along with the I485. Once you have the EAD you can start working.
