Obviously rights have been lost if you have a bondsmen or probation officer. I believe animal control needs a court order. You can turn away an assessor or a building inspector.......just expect higher taxes from the assessor and a red flag from the inspector...

Law enforcement has been know to use game wardens and bondsmen, to do things that they can't otherwise do, without probable cause and/or a warrant. Bondmen and bounty hunters have certain authority under federal law to pursue fugitives anywhere and everywhere. It only requires a reasonable suspicion that the person they are looking for might be there. Game wardens are permitted to inspect anything, or anyone, to verify that you haven't taken any game that is out of season, or that you don't have in your possession more that the legal limit, or doesn't meet the requirements for size, gender, age, or species, or that it was taken in a manner not permitted by regulation.

Anyways, in the back country, wardens have been know to follow a blood trail, or tire tracks, back to a camp, or cabin, or even onto private property, to see who has been poaching. They are forever busting Asians from the Bay Area and Sacramento coming out to the Sonoma coast poaching abalone. I think last summer, or a few summers back, they caught a Cambodian with 40 undersize ab's in his trunk. The growers up north are always killing deer and wild pigs. The wardens are usually the first ones to find the illegal growing operations, although I don't know how anyone could miss the obvious smell.

My issue with the building permit scheme. There are buildings, structures and homes well north of 100+ years old -- all still standing, through storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc. All in an era when there were zero standards and no govt inspections, done with remarkable craftsmanship.

Building permits & planning commissions = is nothing more than asking for permission. Insuring building standards could be done outside of govt, planning commissions, well, if they went away, the sun would still rise.

Actually building codes and inspections in the US are well over 100 years old. Your comment about 100+ year old homes is quite important actually. These structures represent trial and error and codes have been developed from their success.

For instance the Call building survived the 1906 earthquake. As engineers learned about why it survived, elements of its design were codified.

The New York Police Department - yes the civilian PD - has the capability to bring down an airliner.

But don't worry. They'll only use it on the bad guys.
