The same party that calls itself the "Law and Order" party, you know, "We don't need any new laws, just enforce the laws as they are written," are the same folks that want the Second Amendment to protect their rights to carry concealed weapons to shoot neighborhood dogs and kill teenagers armed with skittles and iced tea, or constantly worry about black helicopters drones monitoring their Volksbund meetings. "Screw you hippie!"

I don't know which is worse: The other party wants to manage every detail of our lives, from what we eat, to what we drive, and even what we are allowed to think, however, "Don't repress me, man!" every time they find some law crimping their style. "Diversity don't include Facist pigs!"

As the "burden" of personal responsibility continues to erode we'll see an increase in not only police state presence, but willingness of the people to accept that behavior. They'll take it and ask for more.

It was pointed out that our criminal forefathers shared a link with the Aussies. Well, we're sharing the same link with them now, aren't we? "We need a welfare state that takes care of us."

Our forefathers wanted a state that left them alone. They intentionally set up a government that was non-intrusive and almost non-existent. We, on the other hand, want government in every aspect of our lives. Why? So we don't have to take care of ourselves. So someone else can do it for us.

Shame on us.

There is a lot of truth there. However, both parties like their spending, whether it is spreading the wealth just around the US, or killing people around the world who don't believe in the American way.

It's not an issue of which party is better. They both suck equally.

The fundamental belief of what it is to be an American has been lost by modern society. Until we can get that back we'll continue down this path of destruction until our ultimate doom.

Slim, compared to 50 years ago, the gradual slide away from personal responsibility toward so many willingly accepting and welcoming govt control over their lives -- I don't see it turning back. The educational system, from high school to colleges and universities, serves as an incubator for the left where they indoctrinate and churn out millions that are less likely to embrace liberty, but more likely to accept the nanny state.

Must be. I think the slide away from person responsibility goes back farther that that, to when WWI veterans wanted their pensions early, or when FDR proposed his new deal, to borrow from the future to pay for the needs of the present.

As usual, you failed to comprehend the point. The words of that document are as true today as they were more than 200 yrs ago, govt at all levels is out of control. The country is in serious trouble, public debt, unfunded debt north of $60T, (which can never be paid) massive unemployment, the psychological damage of the welfare state, the entitlement mindset of millions, 3,807 regulations from federal agencies in 2011, on pace for 3,968 for 2012 and the destructive power of debt -- a few issues that will tear the nation apart, if left unchecked, but not the Declaration of Independence.

Yet, somehow a mere abbreviated posting of the DOI translates to "...a RWN partisan tool to claim justification for the right to tear the nation apart." It's ok to be afraid of your shadow, but not the words of the Declaration of Independence -- it's ok, you can come out from under the bed now.

Have you complained about Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, etc making available the results of flyovers on the internet? It seems to me that you complain about things that the government does but it is ok for a public company to gather and post the same information on the internet.

Most people don't even realize the Department of Education is only about 30 years old.

They dispute the fact that it's making education "better."

All the "help" the government gives us isn't free. And if we continue to "help" people, we're going to go so far into debt that our currency will become worthless and, as such, our country's government will no longer be able to "help."
