Hyatt Regency Hotel in Montreal?

So, with the IR-1 interview set for November 22nd, I'm trying to figure out flights to get the hubby up here with me for the interview, trains to get us both from Kingston to Montreal, and a hotel for the night before the interview. The planes and trains I've got figured out, but I'm still debating on hotels.

Google Maps is a godsend.

I typed in the address of the consulate, and then searched for hotels nearby. I soooo wish I had known about this back in 2004 when we did the K3 interview. Last time, we stayed at a Delta hotel that was close to the train station, but a lot further from the consulate than I realized. Keep in mind this was early October in Montreal. Brrrr!!! Not doing that one again, especially with this one being in late-November!

It looks like the Hyatt Regency isn't too far of a hike from the consulate. If it's particularly cold out, a cab ride wouldn't cost too much (although, as an Ontarian, I'm not sure about those Quebec drivers :D ). Has anyone stayed there? Any complaints, etc?

I know there's a hotel across the street from the consulate, but since we're spending our 3 year anniversary apart, I'm looking at one of the nicer hotel rooms in the Hyatt and thinking it can just be a month-late anniversary getaway.

I stayed at the Ritz Carlton. It was very nice. Its one of the older Grand hotels. I prefer those to the newer luxury hotels with the furniture all bolted down etc. The cab ride was about 5 minutes and the doorman hailed it for you so its not like the outside temperature was an issue. Room service was 24 hour as well. The coffee was teriffic 3 / 4 times we ordered it.

whenever I was in MOntreal for work, I used to stay at the Sheraton. The suites are nice, bed is comfy, and the walk to the consulate would be maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Cab ride about 2, depending on traffic ;)

Ooooh VERY good to know! I haven't booked our room yet, but I'll try hotwire first :

Also thanks for the walk info. I was planning on walking anyway, but always good to have a timeframe so I know when to leave in the morning.

Did you have a car in Montreal? I know it says $25 for the parking at the Hyatt, but I was just wondering when you would have to leave in the morning in order to not get double charged for that day.

I wouldnt want to spend my anniversay at the centreville, lol Was ok for just myself, but if my wife would have come up for ther interview, would have stayed at something a bit better.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The car thing is based on the time you check in $25 for 24 hrs. So we checked in at 4:30 and checked out by 4 on the day the visa was issued. Even if your a little over you get charged but not the full $25.

If you decide to stay there just remember to walk away from the muesem towards the bank. I was walking all over trying to find the consulate. It was in the opposite direction. Down to the corner and up two streets. It's super close and great when it's first thing in the a.m.

Good Luck.

Also the Hyatt has a mall right under it with food court and grocery store. Can't beat that. Lots of Shopping there!

Just checked hotwire for you. Hyatt checking in on the 21 and leaving the 23 is $91 a night !

Thanks for the info! I checked hotwire too, but you aren't guaranteed that you will get the Hyatt when you book through them....so I don't know if I'll do that.

And, since my interview is on November 22, does that not mean I wouldn't be able to pick up my visa until the Monday because of US Thanksgiving? ;)

Doesn't matter anyway, because I'm going to have it Xpressed back to me. John won't be coming up to get me until end of January early February because of committments I have already made so it's not like we need the visa right away, but having it in my hand will be such a relief

all you do is type in the postal code for the consulate and the four star hotel that comes up is the hyatt. I've used it three times since and go the hyatt.
