CRBA is done at the US embassy/consulate where the child was born, not the US. Go to the nearest US consulate website and look there for the specifics.

Applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad require the parent's and the child's personal appearance at a U.S. consulate or embassy.

There is also a link on that page for what US consul serves what part of Canada. You will need to make sure you send your papers in to the correct US consul.

I just saw on http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/minors/minors_834.html that if he can't be present he can sign a form called the ds-3053. Has anyone here done it this way? I think that is just applying for the passport tho, I'm not completely sure if that is still acceptable in the crba process..which I think it may be because when you apply for the crba you can also apply for a passport at the same time

Sorry for posting so many replies I also just read this

You may also apply for a U.S. passport for your child (in lieu of a consular report of birth abroad) at a passport acceptance agency in the U.S. if that is a more convenient alternative.

You 3 still have to appear in person in the USA to get the passport and present proof of US citizenship of the child.

" The minor and both parents (or guardians) must appear in person to submit Form DS-11 at an acceptance facility or a passport agency. "

If you Claim Citizenship through Birth Abroad to One U.S. Citizen Parent: Submit a Consular Report of Birth (Form FS-240), Certification of Birth (Form DS-1350 or FS-545), or your foreign birth certificate (and official translation if the document is not in English), proof of citizenship of your parent, your parents' marriage certificate, and an affidavit showing all of your U.S. citizen parents' periods and places of residence/physical presence in the United States and abroad before your birth.

Question. We are not married so does this make us ineligable ?
