Question for Saylin or other Montreal CR1ers; where exactly do I pick upy visa from DHL/loomis? Does it have to be dorval? Is there anywhere downtown? Will it take longer if I can and do choose a depot downtown? I'm looking at cheap one way flights to San Diego for the Friday after my Monday interview, I know it's risky but even with the $150 fee to change dates it's still cheaper than buying a ticket the day before flying, and I want to know how much trouble picking up my visa will be I'm on bike or STM.

The sample coversheet on the "NVC Montreal Wiki" shows that the beneficiary should be signing the IV pkg coversheet. Is this a must can I send it with out the signature of my wife.

No, no one has to sign the cover letter if you don't want to. The cover letter in itself is optional, so...

I believe there are a few places in Quebec for DHL locations. Then there's other ones across the country. Here's the full list: http://csc.public.s3.amazonaws.com/us_content/Loomis_Locations.pdf Obviously, the ones in Montreal would be faster as they're closer to the consulate. I personally chose Dorval as that was closest to me and my passport/visa arrived within 3 days of my interview.

There is a link to all the DHL/Loomis locations here: http://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/us_courier_information

If none of the locations are close enough for you, there is also information about how to have your Visa delivered to you. Hope that helps. :)

I'm just about to submit the DS-230 IV Package tomorrow. Quick question, according to the EZ Guide Spouse, it says to submit "1 set photocopy of all the above civil documents."

"Civil" documents include the marriage certificate and birth certificate of my beneficiary spouse? Would this also include the biographic data page of my wife's passport?

2003 - met online

12-09-2010 - met for the first time

12-11-2010 - engaged

05-14-2012 - NVC Case number received

The photocopies are of just the civil documents, so birth and marriage (and divorce and military, if applicable) certificates. The bio-data page of the passport IS a photocopy, so you don't need to include two photocopies of the same thing.

Okay thank you :) I also just figure maybe they would want an extra photocopy of the bio-data passport page.

Thanks guys. Funny thing is the Anjou location is closer to me on the plateau (using public transit) by about 20 min and although the dorval location practically borders the airport it takes the same amount of time (again, with transit) to get from either location to the airport. So I'm booking a flight for Friday afternoon, that gives 4 business days, until I'm forced to rebook my flight and lose the savings, and call my cousin and tell her we won't make her wedding. Fingers crossed it won't come to that.

I hope in your case you're part of the lucky group that gets their passport in 3 business days!

You could always try and explain your situation (an important wedding you want to attend) at the interview and see if there's any way you can pick it up. There's always a chance they can say yes! Chances would be higher if you get the really nice blonde lady that interviews people. I got her and by the sounds of it, so did Sheeshka, and she's beyond nice!

hi saylin! is it important to have enough money in your sponsor's bank account? my husband's yearly income is above poverty limit ($ 35,000 for 3 persons) but his savings account only contains $3000. do we have to worry about it?

Not at all. Unless you provide them a bank statement, NVC will not know how much is in your savings. They just care about how much is made per year.

Anecdote: my husband was making $40k when we were going through NVC, which is well over the poverty limit for 2 people. But he always only has a few hundred dollars (if that) in his savings account (he likes to buy things laughing.gif). Wasn't a problem at all.

I've been gone from here for a bit, congrats to all who has been getting their cc and visas!

:ot:

We are now stuck in a nightmare regarding the babys passport. The embassy managed to lose papers this time, last time it wasd ups sending stuff to India.... The documents the embassy managed to lose was originals and it took them quite a few weeks to let us know they needed new ones, so hubby has to fly out to denver to pick up new ones on monday and then send them to me... But with a short amount of time to spare we are not sure if we'll get her passport in time, we might miss our flight to Alaska :crying:

I don't know your story but is the child a USC or are you trying to do a consular report of birth abroad? If it is just the passport, you can get it expedited but even without it normally only takes a couple of days when I have done my sons at the Copenhagen embassy. They make them at the embassy and you don't have to wait for them to send them back from the US. Worst case they can issue you temporary travel documents to allow you to travel to the US. So if you get the docs you are missing and file next week you should have plenty of time.If it is for consular report of birth abroad that can take a little longer but still call and explain your situation to them and ask for expedited service since it was their fault. Good luck!

We are doing a consular report of birth! I've been on the phone with them quite a few times and they know they messed up, but they still say it'll take around 3 weeks to get the passport after all the paperwork is in. But they have promised to try and hurry things up. I'm gonna be nervous until the day that passport arrives! It would suck to miss our flight to Alaska because of something we didn't cause.. :bonk:

Thanks Saylin, all fingers crossed are appreciated!

We've had a tough couple months behind us, I spent almost all my time at the hospital, I almost lost my mum but thanks to good doctors and a miracle she pulled through! I actually belived that things had turned for us now and we'd have a smooth journey from now on but no.... There is always something to worry about!
