What does NVC stand for? I believe it will now go to the Consolate in Guangzhou.

Thanks

NVC = National Visa Center

No file is sent directly to a Consulate from USCIS despite what a notice (or even an operator) might say. Before your file is sent to Guangzhou, it will go to the NVC first. For K1 cases, the NVC is only a mail stop, your file will be assigned a case number and then forwarded to the Consulate.

I waited a week and contacted the Visa center. They said wait min. 10-15 days after receipt of the letter to contact them for a new case number. Not sure what I can do with this number anyway. I still have to wait. :blink:

The Receipt number (WAC_____________) you received from USCIS with your I-797c is not used by the Department of State (DoS), which includes the NVC. Your petition has entered into the realm of the DoS, they use case file numbers. When you communicate with the interviewing consulate, or the DoS visa specialists, they will ask for your case file number and other identifying information.

After reading several recent posts at the general K-1 visa discussion section, it seems that there maybe a recent lag or slowdown at the NVC, resulting in a delay of assignment/dissemination of the requisite case file number.

Good luck on your visa journey.
