We always tell to people what is the mix of our baby, like example; my daughter is a mix if a filipino-american a.k.a "fil-am" and born in United States. But what about filling up a forms or getting a passport, what race do you put for her if the choices of races is only, ( Caucasian, black, asian, asian islander and hispanic ). Thought this is a little bit confusing lol. Any expert information ?

If your child is mixed Asian and Caucasian, then you have your choice. You can put what you want - either race or if there is a box for "other", you can use that.

They better start coming up with some more categories for mixed race children/people because those numbers have been growing here in the USA and I imagine across the world now with internet and faster travel. Actually, they always have been growing just even more so now. I think it's great that the different peoples of the world can more easily meet and can experience different peoples and cultures first hand not just from books and other media that do not always tell the truth or at best give particular views and also that more oprions are open to people for relationships and marriage because of those things. Variety is the spice of life!

It won't be in my lifetime, but not too far in the future, there will be far more mixed race people on this earth than there are now and in time race really will not matter because most everyone will be mixed and the pure races will be the minorities and eventually will be a thing of the past. Can't see how that won't/can't happen - eventually.

LOL thanks for the humor guys . YES we forgot about the "other" box lol. Just came up in our conversation with husband this morning. We are thinking to put "asian" when we get her a passport. But we wasn't sure coz she is only 50% asian, then can't put caucasian coz her skin also is not that white. I like though your idea Iyawo LOL.

Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

Lol. Thanks Gegel !

I am not an owweee gushy person, but I have to admit that is one cute baby

I for one will be glad when the government stops asking....

I never understood why our Govt spends so much money on diversity training, affirmative action , eeo etc etc, then makes sure they group people in all those neat little boxes. I think it just creates more division.

Although my wife is Chinese-Spanish-Filipino, I (and she) think predominantly about her Chinese ancestry. I also find that I have a certain "pride"... not sure what to call it...in her Chinese ancestry. Well... pretty much equal pride in her native Filipino ancestry. I always tell my son he is descended from warriors and hunters and fishermen. I am proud of the native Filipino ancestry about equally as the Chinese ancestry. For some reason I don't care that much nor think that much of the Spanish ancestry. We call him the United Nations baby because he has 7 lines to draw on: Chinese, Filipino, Spanish, German, Dutch, French and American. At any rate, on most any form we have had to choose an ethnicity, I have always proudly selected "Asian", but have paused on occasion in considering to maybe sometime choose "Pacific Islander". But I never know for sure if he could be considered that or not. In the end we go with Asian since that is what he is listed as on all such forms.
