Hello everyone, I am planning a trip to tashkent in july or august. I am looking for info on Electric over there as I am an electrician. I know we use 60 hertz in U.S. and some countries use 50 Hertz. I dont want to fry my laptop. Anybody know about external modems for dial-up as newer laptops are not compatable wioth dial-up just hi-speed.Any info on Tashkent Consulate, as on V.J. there is only older info not recent. How are they on ir-1 / cr-1 visa processing and how long do they want to see a relationship b-4 marriage ? Any travel advisories about food / water over there. ? I've read about some people getting bad diareha over there. She is Ukrainian but had to live wioth her grandparents who moved there during war. Also I read something about tourists have to stay in hotels not private residences / apartments. is this true. ? also what does the consulate require for affidavit of support.? I know last years tax return and/or letter from employer, but do they also want past 3 or more months pay-stubs, as my employer pays me cash and I report everything at tax time.. Thanks everyone. !!!!!!

*The Family Rules*

Always tell the truth , Always argue naked,of course not in the childrens presence.and Don't go to bed angry.

Too much t.v is bad, too much reading is good! Family comes first, always be there.

Hands are for hugging not for hitting! Be thankful for what you have.. don't envy others

Have fun, be kind, ask first, no fussing, no whining., Husband adore her always- Wife love him forever

Sing silly, dance crazy, hug often, snuggle daily ,use your manners- Yes, please. No, thank you.

Use nice words, ignore dirty words Share everything except bad ideas

Say your prayers, thank God for this family.

Always be nice to strangers cuz they just might be a friend you have'nt met yet..!

Check out www.ruadventures.com or www.russianwomendiscussion.com. On one of them, somebody just recently went to Tashkent. A really good TR. Most power supplies these days are universal voltage. Just look on the transformer and it will tell you the input voltage and cycles. Usually they will say 100-240 volts, 50/60 Hz. You'll be ok, just remember to take a couple of plug adapters. You can get an international set at Target for $10. Walmart is double. I've had no problems with my electric razor or camera battery charger. Likewise, the cheapo wall chargers for an iPhone/iPod are universal voltage, just gotta have the adapter. As for food and water, normal travel rules apply. There, too, the afore mentioned forums have plenty of info on what to do, or not to do. Don't know a thing about dialup, ask about that, too, on the forums. Bunch of people have done it with reasonable success. Wifi is also an option, if available. Good luck!

Hello, this is my first post on this forum so apologies if I did something wrong.

Europe, Ukraine, Russia, and I assume Uzbekistan use 220V 50Hz power with European style plugs. As others have said, most power bricks support that, and that can be confirmed by looking at the small writing on it. For me there was one exception, in that my PC power brick became burning hot after about 30mins of use in spite of indicating it should work. For that reason I would check it occasionaly just to make sure it is not getting burning hot.

Google "USB modem" or something similar and you will find cheap adapters for dial-up networking, but I would be a little bit surprised if you need it.

I've Traveled to Tashkent back in 2008 and 2009 over 5 times and now have relatives there . . . and can offer some advise if you have not left yet - UZ is a very particular country to travel in and you should be aware of some local issues.

Let me know.

Charles
