something I have noticed is breastfeeding.... almost seems normal and natural in my wife's village. Something moms are expected to do. In the US, it is completely going against the grain. Any mom breastfeeding in the US can expect either praise or ridicule. And usually if you are out, are expected to "cover" yourself in the US for exposing yourself during feeding. Explaining this to my wife is not easy. Village culture she grew up in is very different.

Around here, women cover themselves for modesty and because its often cold while breast feeding. Although I have noticed the occasional mother letting it all hang out while breast feeding, never in the winter though. Given viewpoints vary so much around here, some are shocked and some don't care at all. If she can handle the stares of the few that are offended, let her hang it out while feeding. Heck there are women that show more breasts at the beach than most breast feeding women do even when not covering the act. In the USA you don't have to act to keep the most prudish happy.

To not breast feed for obvious legitimate reasons like not lactating is one thing. But i just dont understand how and why giving your baby the natural God givin' nutrients that are far superior to any formula and is recommended by doctors is frowned upon by some people. That is absolutely retarded. Even all infant formula cans say to never use unless directed to do so by a doctor, and that its recommended to breast feed your child until 2 years old. end rant :ranting:

Not to mention its free.

But yeah here my wife just pops her soso out whenever our baby is hungry, i dont care and neither does she. Of course, it will be a little different in America if we are in a public place like the mall or something, but if people want to frown, let them. In 10 years they will look like ####### from frowning all the time

EATING DOGS is a FILIPINO tradition 'thing'?? Where the heck did you learn that???fc]

Guess the first time I was told this was sitting in a restaurant in Baguio City about 1975, looking at the menu I asked the waiter what is Asocena? He said, "That is Aso, dog, it is a traditional dish here it will warm you up". I said no thanks, it's warm outside today! He he.

Eating dogs were Igorot custom but not true to all tribes in the Philippines. That person misuse the word "tradition."

darren, would you please stop blowing hot air. there's nothing hard about setting up bank accounts. it took 15 minutes at the bank for my wife and i to do it.

also, gretchen has been there for nine months, so she knows how much things cost. if you have shown her your monthly household budget and she still has the perception that you have lots of money, then there's a problem. then she's telling you she doesn't care.

yes, darren... we just got married less than 4 weeks ago and i'm already on my husband's account. need to have access to the account so i can still use it even when he's away.

doing this is really easy. i wonder why you're having problems.

Don't be projecting your view of the world on places you have never been, or don't know anything about.

DaRoq... your statement: "if there are "Many oysters in the world to choose from", why go halfway around the world to pick one when there are many here already? Don't the seasonings and spices work just the same? LOL" is such an oversimplification of how love and marriage works. Shouldn't the answer to your question be your reason to why you chose your spouse?

:ot2:

American ketchup = tomato

Philippine ketchup = banana

I told my then-fiance this and he was like "Banana as ketchup???? STFU" Haha

They says God Bless America or The Freedom Country. I was too curious about this. why freedom country? why god bless america? When i came here, there was no freedom coz lots of laws. In the philippines, you can punch someone right away, or grab her hair, or pinch her, slap her face.....thats freedom without being afraid of the law. In america, if your mad to a person, you can't even punch him right away, kick his #### coz of so many laws to be followed. God bless America???? i think its God bless PHILIPPINES right now. There are so many foreigner marrying filipina women coz they want to retire in the Philippines and live like a King and Queen and own a house and lot with 3 story concrete house with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, plus driver, and a houshelper which they can't do here in america. I'm proud to be a filipino. Hurray PHILIPPINES!!!

In all honesty, Jean... those really aren't the things that should make you proud to be Filipino. With every kind of freedom is a responsibility to use that freedom. The Philippines is not as lawless as what you make it to be.

“The fact that we are here and that I speak these words is an attempt to break that silence and bridge some
of those differences between us, for it is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence.
And there are so many silences to be broken.”

Yep, that's called a civilized society. In America, we have the freedom to file a law suit that will actually follow through and get something done, slap an assault and battery felony charge, and take away the freedom of the person who could not deal with his/her disputes like a responsible thinking grown up. Don't confuse lack of freedom with not putting up with BS. In order to maintain freedoms, we must protect and respect the freedoms of others. Accountability actually goes a long way here. It isn't that the people who go around beating up others are proving they aren't afraid of the law. All they are proving is that they are menaces to society and the well being of others. In other words, they are selfish, and they are justly punished for being the idiots they freely chose to be. Another thing is that one policy can be worse than many. How about your good ole CFO huh? Are you so free that you have go through seminars and be validated under a microscope to leave your country? Just asking

By the way, I love the Philippines, but I would only live there for my fiancee's sake. We might retire there in the distant future, but I can assure you. I don't care any for maids, servants, or 'royal' status. Been taking care of myself for quite some time and will for as long as I can. :)

He's shifted to a more-valid (IMO) label, though. .. ..

'village culture she grew up in'

IMO, that's the proper label to use, when he's next comparing stuff.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

"specific to my spousal unit based solely on my own flawed observations and prejudices" would be better

In the Philippines, you expect your children to support you in your old age out of a sense of obligation. In America, you expect the government to steal the money from your children and grandchildren for you.

Hahahahah corect..even my husband said that.
