is it normal for my lawyer no to know when he sent out my aos package? he couldnt provide me with a tracking number either?

Im so worried because after so many years of being undocumented my whole future rests on this. After giving me the run around he called me last tuesday the 22 to let me know my aos had been sent, i asked him when ,he said sometime the week before. I asked him if he had a tracking number or anything to confirm if uscis received it not because i dont trust him i just want to make sure everything is ok, he said he didnt have it. Ive been checking every day to see if my money orders have been cashed and my mail box, my question is if its important to know the tracking number in making sure my aos arrived ? And if my lawyer cant tell me exactly when he sent it when do i start worrying? I really apreciate all your answers you guys have helped me a lot. In Los Angeles btw.

May 22 , 2012 : Lawyer sent AOS
June 10, 2012 : checks cashed
June 11, 2012 : NOA's arrived
June 13, 2012 : Biometrics appointment arrived for July 5th
June 19, 2012: Succesful walk-in at Bellflower,ca office
July 25, 2012 : First card production ordered text/email
July 30, 2012 : second card production ordered text/email
July 30 ,2012 : Third text/email approval notice sent
July 31,2012 : Fourth text/email usps reported it picked up email
Aug 2, 2012 : Fifth email USPS has delivered your new card at address on file
Sep 7,2012 : Text notification update: On September7th we mailed you an appointment notice for an interview for October 10,2012!!
Sep 10,2012: receieved interview letter in the mail for October 10 at LA field office!

May 6,2013 : Recieved email I-485 approved

May 10,2013: card document production ordered/ received Welcome letter

May 16,2013: Received Green Card in Mail!

Why are you using a Lawyer you can not trust.

Is this an Amnesty petition?

@Boiler no its under 245-i. I had an aproved i-130 prior to the april 30,2001 dead line. Sinse i was undocented for all these years i hired a lawyer because i know how difficult immigration could be. My father is a born USC.

Katie, chances are your lawyer will not have a process number until the paperwork he sent in is received and processed, which means all you can do is wait, because that will take some time.

Having said that, my suggestion is that you take some time and go see him in person and try and find out if he has any physical evidence of submitting the papers, such as a USPS or courier tracking number.

I guess im just going to have to wait it out sinse my lawyer is on vacation until june 15th. But can amyome suggest until what date should i wait for any action?

Be very careful my friend, My friend in Boston used a lawyer and it started just like you are saying, no details or lack of info. $5000 later, the lawyer was gone and my friend had nothing but an empty wallet.

Your English doesn't seem bad. Why use a lawyer? These USCIS forms are pretty simple to understand and one thing people need to know, really, is that a lawyer does NOT speed up or actually enhance the chances of approval.

My advice to anyone who has a good command of the English language is to just go ahead and fill the forms. There is also so much freely available help online [including in VJ] that a lawyer these days should only be necessary if things turn out badly for one reason or other.

Notwithstanding, you say you do not trust the lawyer. Alas! Was this an arranged lawyer-client relationship where you had no say in hiring the lawyer?

Absolutely not normal...if you haven't payed already go find another one or DIY (do-it-yourself) - fairly straight forward process.
