Hi all,

Could anyone provide a link with step by step instructions for filing an IR-1 (and IR-2) through Mexico City? I have the following page, but it states that Mexico City only handles F4 and adoption categories. But, through my reading here, it´s clear to me that many people have filed for IR-1 through Mexico City.

http://mexico.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas.html

I am shaky on this whole process. I understand that first I file an I-130 petition. Do I also send a payment along with it? I´ve been reading up here quite a bit, but I´d love to find clear instructions on one specific page.

Thanks so much!

I live in Queretaro about 3 hours north of Mexico City. According to the page, the Mexico City Field Office handles immigration matters for my state but not applications and petitions. So how do I begin?

Again, I didn´t see clear instructions for the IR-1 on this page or any link provided on this page. I know that I have to begin with an I-130 petition and I can download that. Do I have to send the payment along with the I-130? Is there anything else that accompanies this petition? How do I go from there?

Just a bit lost, I guess.

Hi You send in the pakcet I130 in to cd Mexico (use DHL) or take it in your self. If you have lived in mexico for at least 6 months. The application tells you what to send in, in the instruction page. Then you will ethier get an approval and your app will go to Cd juarez or if you forgot to send something in you will get a RFE (request further evidence). This process is pretty quick at least for me it has...we got our approval letter on the 10apr and we have our intreview jun 20th.

I hope this helps out!

Hi Andnico-

Sounds like things are going well for you this time around. Hope you got your other questions answered. I sent you a private msg. Are you filing in Mexico City or CD Juarez? I live in the State of Queretaro as well, so will be processing our I-130 through Mexico City. I'm assuming that our interview would be in Mexico City as well? I have a question regarding police clearance... maybe you can tell me how that process works? My husband's never been in any trouble so no problem there.

Thanks.

You must be getting excited, your interview is very soon! Good luck!!

Thanks very much for that. I have the I-130 printed out and ready to fill in, so I follow the instructions and take it from there.

One very specific question: In addition to filing for an IR-1 for my wife, I am filing for an IR-2 for my son. I will fill out separate I-130 petitions for both of them.

My son is wife´s biological son and I have adopted him: However, the adoption completely wiped out his original birth certificate. It as if it never existed, and his birth certificate now includes my wife´s info and my info just as if he had been born this year (he´s 6 now). There is no annotation to his birth certificate or record, as is the case in some adoptions. His birth certificate is exactly like my biological daughter´s.

On the I-130, it asks if the petitioner (me) and the beneficiary (my son) are related by adoption. As I said, according to legal documents we have, the answer is technically yes and technically no. I believe the question is asking about international adoptions and therefore a different situation. Any suggestions as to how to answer this question? Do I check the box for yes or for no?

Hi there. Good to know that you´re about to go through this and are nearby. We should share notes!

Absolutely. The more the merrier. If we combine our collective research and knowledge, the journey will be much easier.

I'm doing a bit of planning ahead research and am wondering if anyone knows, relative to the police clearance, how far in advance of the interview can you have it done? I'm also wondering if my husband is going to have to have a whole lot of immunization shots at the medical. As far as he knows he's never been immunized for anything and he has no medical records. I'd hate to think that he has to have a whole bunch of injections at once... rather overwhelming on the body. I'd love to hear from anyone who has any experience with this.

Mejm, if you haven't already read through the I-130 process in visajourney, for sure do so. There is lots of information and it will help to clear up pretty much all your confusion. I did the same thing when I first started and within a few days, my head was pretty clear on the who, what, when, where and why. Are you living in the city of Queretaro or elsewhere. We're in Tequisquiapan.

Where did you and your wife do the adoption, although I'm not sure it matters? It would be my educated guess that you need to state that your son is adopted, as that is in fact the truth. Do you have an old copy of the original birth certificate? You may wish to include that with notation in your packet. For the purpose of application I believe that you need to provide the most recent birth certificate for your son. My husband and I don't have any children so I'm a bit out of the loop on this one.

Are you planning on submitting your I-130 in person? We decided to do so rather than mailing it so in case there are any questions or they need clarification we can do that on the spot rather than having our application rejected for missing information. You may try making an inquiry to the USCIS office if you are still unsure as to what to do.

Let me know how it goes. I'd like to stay in touch.
