Grasshoppr I'm glad you went...they're much nicer there than the no-help line....

I think it helps to talk to someone face to face....and the infopass people seem to be much more knowledgeable than the phone line people... who, I'm convinced are just reading from a script most of the time....they can never tell you any more info than the stuff you can find online yourself!

I'm glad you got some peace of mind... well worth an hour or 2 of your time. I'll be down there as soon as my 90 days is up!!

He confirmed that my file is still at NBC. NBC schedules the interviews and sends the letters and THEN they forward the files to the DO. So my file is still in Missouri, until such time as they schedule me.

Hi Grashoppr,

I am happy about your Infopass". Although you did not receive any concrete info, at least, you got your passport stamped for the extension of GC validity.

Regarding scheduling of interview: I was under the impression that NBC releases N-400 files to various DOs after initial processing, in order of PDs.

That is the time one gets the message "In line for interview". When the DO schedules the interview, it becomes "Scheduled for interview".

(Of course "on line" messages are very unreliable in USCIS website.)

[During my 485 AOS, my interview letter came from the local DO's letter head.

and on line message was reading "still in process" even 2 months after I got my GC!!!]

I sincerely wish and hope you get your NC before November ends.

Well, I've seen some on the Trackitt website go through the same DO much more quickly - the ones with a military affiliation definitely go through faster - as well, they should, IMO... but I've seen others who zip through, and I've asked if they have a military affiliation and they don't. Just lucky I guess.

Yes, they should all go by priority date, but they don't always.

Thanks, Grashoppr, funny picture :) I'm glad you have that infopass, even if they don't do anything real, I guess you feel better anyway.

Greg, congratulations!

My interview is tomorrow, I'm leaving in 7 hours from now, and - thank God! - my husband goes with me, I can't drive 6-7 hours. I hope it will go well.

The man at the USCIS office said that the interviews are scheduled by NBC in Missouri. Others have posted that their IL comes from Lee's Summit, MO. That's also where my YL came from, 4 1/2 weeks ago. YL was dated 5 weeks ago today. Yes, I'm sure the volume for each DO affects when NBC schedules things.

When I arrived, the parking lot was packed - but the waiting area was nearly empty. Huge flood of people were leaving when I came through security - oath ceremony was just ended. By the time I left my appointment, the lot was nearly empty again. So yeah, they process a LOT of people through my DO. I'm sure only a tiny fraction post on this site and others like it, so it's hard to see the bigger picture.

Still cautiously optimistic I can be through by the end of the year. I'm at 125 days now. Average for my DO as of Aug. 31st is 5.2 months. Guess we'll see what, if anything, the next few weeks brings.

Yes, good luck today - I was a day "early" yesterday... I never know what day it is!

At the Infopass they did give me a GC extension - so that was a huge plus - solves many issues, so definitely not a waste of time.

Hopefully we're all moving along soon.

I'm confused about this Missouri thing now.....

I sent our papers to the Dallas lockbox, and then assumed they'd be sent to Atlanta....

What am I missing!!???

I sent to Dallas Lockbox too. My receipt number starts with NBC* That's the National Benefits Center in Lee's Summit, MO. I guess it gets forwarded there from Dallas. I don't have my papers here with me, I don't remember where the initial NOA or FP letter came from. The yellow letter definitely came from NBC in Missouri, and that's where the agent told me my file still is - or at least was, until yesterday. He said that the NBC office sets the appointments and mails the IL, then they send the file to the DO.

I had sent my papers to Phoenix Lock Box (Since Alaska comes under their jurisdiction for filing N-400 applications) on 13th Sep. It was received by them on 17th Sep which became my PD.

The NOA (with NBC*) and FP letters both dated 20th Sep came in two different envelopes from Missouri with two different Zip codes on 26th Sep.

I guess USCIS distributes the initial Receipts and Documentation work to the Dallas/Texas/Phoenix/NSC service centers, who update the records electronically to NBC.

NBC does the initial processing, assigning PDs, issuing FP letters/yellow letters, gets the FP/background check reports from FBI and does any additional processing if required and finally puts us on the long interview line and transfers the files to local DO for final adjudication.

Obviously applicants from military and applicants married to US citizens get priority for adjudications.

For remaining applicants, the processing seems to proceed at normal pace. However some stray cases get delayed for unknown reasons. That is the time, all of us get concerns and worries.

I passed the test!

I had a nice officer who seemed to be not really interested in any details, so she just was polite, ask standard questions (she even missed some of them), didn't ask any extra papers to prove marriage. Then civic/history test with pretty simple questions (test form #5): four amendments who can vote, who is in charge of executive branch, main concern during the cold war, one right from first amendment, reason colonists came, and who become president if he can't serve. English: she said to choose any sentence from the card, I read: What state has the most people? and she said very clearly the answer, so if you are good with grammar, don't worry about this part of the test.

Then she said my case has been recommended for approval, gave me the notice, and said the Oath will be probably at Detroit (this can be important for other Michiganders: they use different courts for different counties, and somehow my county from the North-East goes to Detroit court), and I should have the letter-invitation in 30 days.

So nice to pass it!

Hope the rest of us in this tread will finish soon too, let's say - before New Year!
