The organisers must be held responsible surely.

Their actions and inactions were directly responsible for deaths and injuries.

There would certainly be a good civil case, I would have though Manslaughter charges as well.

Perhaps something for the ACLU to help with?

Your post yesterday highlighted a quote from the last paragraph indicating the blockade was illegal, so it seemed you were selectively quoting and highlighting to make it appear that was the UN determination.

I linked the U.N. General Assembly report from its fact-finding mission on the flotilla incident, which examined the blockade under international law, and found it to be illegal.

What are you babbling about ? Not even Israel's kangaroo court tried to make that case. All the passengers were ever charged with was "illegal entry" into Israel - and that's after Israel kidnapped them on the high seas and forced them onto Israeli territory against their will.

In all honesty, had I been a boat captain everyone would have been made to sign a waiver.

Excellent idea.

I am not sure it would have held up in the UK courts, Unfair Contract Terms Act. So would it have held up in the Turkish courts?

These people needed to be made an example of to prevent future occurrences of this nature.

No more silly "flotillas" since the incident, so I'd say their strategy worked.

The world is well aware of what Israel is willing to do to "make an example" of people who dare to defy its criminal behavior - murder and maiming are its usual MO.

The Mission does not find it plausible that soldiers were holding their weapons and firing as they descended on the rope [from the helicopter]. However, it has concluded that live ammunition was used from the helicopter onto the top deck prior to the descent of the soldiers.

...

Further, the Mission finds that the Israeli accounts so inconsistent and contradictory with regard to evidence of alleged firearms injuries to Israeli soldiers that it has to reject it...

...

At least one of those killed was using a video camera and not involved in any of the fighting with the soldiers.

...

Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition both from the top deck at passengers on the bridge deck below and after they had moved down to the bridge deck. At least four passengers were killed, and at least nine injured (five with firearms injuries) during this phase. None of the four passengers who were killed, including a photographer who at the time of being shot was engaged in taking photographs and was shot by an Israeli soldier positioned on the top deck above, posed any threat to the Israeli forces. There was considerable live fire from Israeli soldiers on the top deck and a number of passengers were injured or killed whilst trying to take refuge inside the door or assisting other to do so.

...

It is hoped that there will be swift action by the Government of Israel. This will go a long way to reversing the regrettable reputation which that country has for impunity and intransigence in international affairs.

Could the organizers be held responsible under Sharia law?

The world is well aware, and doesn't give a #######. The world has bigger problems -

the Eurozone on the verge of a breakup, Washington deadlocked on critical budget issues,

a slowdown in the Chinese economy and its ripple effects around the globe, the world's

major economies faltering or shrinking, Iranian nuclear enrichment talks failing

without an agreement... somehow a shooting accident on an illegal flotilla trying

to aid a terrorist regime is not exactly high on the list of the world's priorities.

Sounds like Israel's problems to me. The flotilla wasn't illegal; the blockade is - and the U.N. says so.

The only thing stopping international sanctions on Israel for its repeated criminal behavior is one lone veto at the Security Council. And Israel knows it. It's no wonder that supporters of greater Israel dedicate so much time and money to influencing U.S. politics - all Israel’s eggs are in one basket. But that basket is tipping over - from its own rotten stink. This is what's ironic. Israel doesn't realize just how much it's going to need international law.

I think by in large Israel has been gaining breathing room. All eyes will be on Syria for the next year or so.

The US *is* the law. If the US basket ever "tips over", you can forget about the UN and international law - it'll be the wild wild west again.

Are you saying the Empire didn't do a good job of policing the world?

The basket in which Israel has all its eggs is not the U.S.; it's the U.S. veto at the Security Council.
