We applied for AP and EAD with the AOS application and received the green card before AP and EAD approval. My wife can travel outside the country and work in the USA with her green card, so the extra fees I paid for the AP and EAD turned out to be unnecessary.

Anyone else have that experience?

Hey Jen,

Take a look at my timeline for the AOS. We received the green card in about the same time frame as most people. However, we never did recieve the AP or EAD; now they're unnecessary.

Strange huh?

Thanks,

Tom

I'd pay for AP and EAD again if it would get us approved anytime soon. We didn't really think we needed either, but applied for them anyway. It's a good thing though because he needed EAD to renew his driver's license.

I know more than one member here who 'bet the ranch' and didn't file for EAD or AP because they thought the card would come pretty quickly.

The growing 'approved pending namecheck' thread in this forum can attest to how often that plan doesn't work.

Not to mention the news we are getting that the FBI has 7 million namechecks presently in the pipeline.

We are about to file a RENEWAL of my husband's EAD. I'd hate to think the financial mess we would be in if we hadn't filed concurrently.

Well, my interview is in 14 days, less than 2 1/2 months after we filed for AOS. I believe I'll probably be one of these cases as well, as for I haven't received any updates on the AP or EAD. I already feel like I wasted quite a bit of money =(

My story:

09/23/2002 - Met Chris online, there was something very special about this guy =0)

07/16/2006 - We got married in Reno, Nevada.

USCIS:

08/13/2006 - Filed for AOS, AP, EAD - they were VERY carefully packaged with a detailed cover sheet on top of each of the forms, just as VJ's instructions recommend. It was A LOT of work, but it did pay off! (we firmly believe this is what sped up our process big time)

08/31/2006 - Biometrics appointment

09/09/2006 - Received my AOS appointment date!

10/26/2006 - EAD touched and AP APPROVED!

10/27/2006 - AOS appointment at 7:30 AM! APPROVED IN EXACTLY 70 DAYS!!!

11/01/2006 - EAD approved

11/02/2006 - Email notification - greencard will be mailed as soon as it is ready! YAY again!

11/02/2006 - Welcome to the United States of America letter in the mail! Almost there! =)

11/06/2006 - EAD card and White card (a.k.a. greencard) arrive in the mail!

Journey Total Duration: 80 days

Filed for removal of conditions on 07-28-2008 and had them removed on 09-10-2008

I got my Greencard but never received any EAD. I also got approved for the Greencard and sent to my mother in law's house, while I was on vacation in Germany so she could have just sent it there and I didn't need the AP at all. Anyway, I paid for all of that (AP and EAD) and never really needed any of them. too bad. No big deal (could have bought a nice pair of shoes from the money though.)

Removal of Conditions Timeline:

03/19/2008 - package sent to TSC, let's hope for the best

03/20/2008 - check cashed

03/26/2008 - case sent to Vermont Service Center

04/17/2008 - Biometrics scheduled

05/19/2008 - received I551 extension stamp via INFOPASS

02/12/2009 - APPROVED

02/21/2009 - GC received...no mistakes...valid until 2019

Well I are n't that bothered about when I get the AOS as long as I get EAD and AP, then I can work and travel.

But on another point, if you had only applied for AOS, then you would have missed out on the enjoyment of filing all the rest of that paperwork!

We just sent our AOS paperwork and I am still glad we decided to send the EAD application. Yeah, sure, it might be almost $200. But if the green card takes even 1 month longer than the EAD, then he could make more than that back. And if the green card is fast, I still wouldn't regret it.

As for the AP, we don't have money to visit Iceland anytime soon anyway. The earliest we probably could go is New Years 2008 (besides which, I have no vacation time left at my job until next year). If he didn't have his GC by then, I guess we could file for advanced parole.
