Hello everyone...

I am applying for my IR/CR1 visa through Seoul. I have made my appointment through their online appointment system for June.

After March 9th, the appointment system changed, and you can now make your own appointment,

I have read about people having to send the DS230 before the interview, but I was not asked in my approval email, nor on the website where I made my appointment, that I have to send the DS230 before my interview.

I have all my documents ready for my interview, but I was just wondering about this. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Would suggest you call the Embassy and find out as soon as possible.All the best!!!

Well, I have been emailing the embassy, and they seem to just wait for me to submit these papers, once I come in for my interview next week.

Seoul works through ustravels.docs and you submit your information electronically, and I think it must be on their system.

I also did my B2 visa through them, so i think all my information is on their computers.

Hi there. As part of your documentation, did you need to get a police background check from both the Korean police and the police in your home country ?

Yes...You need a Korean police check that has to be translated into English, and you need one from each country where you lived more than 6 months I think.

I got a Korean police check, and got it translated.

I also got my police clearance from South Africa, where I was born and grew up. that was in English already.

Thanks for the reply. With regards to getting police records from other countries, are you able to point me to where that requirement is stated?

Also, how did you go about obtaining the records from countries where you previously lived if you don't live there anymore?

You need to contact your government, or the government of all the countries where you lived for more than 6 months, and request a police clearance from them.

I contacted my police station, got my fingerprints taken, and send to South Africa, and after 2-3 weeks, they issued my police clearance certificate,

Better start with that, and the unabridged birth certificate early, because that can take time,

With regards to getting police records from other countries, are you able to point me to where that requirement is stated? That requirement is in packet 3, that you would receive after your I-130 petition that your spouse filed is approved, you can check on the US embassy website. They have all the information there. All I know, is that the criminal checks are very important,

Thanks for the reply. I've lived in Canada and the US for more than 6 months since I was 16, so I suppose I will have to do that. Is there a specific validity period that these checks cannot be older than? I am back home in Canada now, and so could feasibly get that check done soon, but not sure if it will be considered valid by the time i apply for DCF.

In your other post, you said you were born in India. You would need a background check from Canada, How long did you live in India? If more than 6 months, I think you need one from there too. Once you get to Korea, you will need a korean check too that has to be translated. They are valid for 6 months I think,

That's correct, I was born there but never lived there for more than 6 months, and definitely not as an adult. I did spend two years in the US as a student, so I suppose i will need a check from there as well.

They just couldn't make this step easier, could they ?

Regarding the police checks. If you were born in Canada. When did you move to Canada? At what age? I think your best option would be to contact USCIS, and ask them about that,

There is a part somewhere on the way, where they ask you for all valid and expired passports. In your case. If you were born in India, then you should have an Indian passport too, and your Canadian passport should show that you were born in India. That might raise eyebrows. are you a dual citizen?

I moved to Canada when I was around 10 or 11. I used to have an Indian passport, but forfeited it when I received Canadian citizenship. However, I do have an Indian visa in my passport and am considered a non-resident Indian.

Well, all I would recommend is to contact USCIS, and ask them what they suggest. I don't think you would need an Indian police clearance, as you say you moved to Canada when you were 10/11. When did you become Canadian? If before you turned 16, you should be good,
