Dominican Republic Calling Fraud

Hello everyone

I have decided to post this because i find it very disturbing and important in our journey through the visa process. Yesterday something funny happened to my husband and i, he had someone contact him on behalf of the Consultorio de visas telling him that he needed to send "them" some money so that he could pay for his medical appointment for the interview. But the problem is i have not put in no type of paper work since i still have not received our marriage certificate, so as soon as i started listening to this person talking i knew it was a fraud since no one from the medical center is supposed to contact you or ask you for money via western union; is all done in person at the medical center. I have no idea how this person got his house phone number, and knowledge of any kind of visa process. This is a big scam that i think a lot of people that don't know about the entire visa/medical process might be falling for in the DR. If someone calls you from this number 8093220247 do not by any means give them no type of info or send money to them, or even if they contact you asking for it. Is sad how people are trying to make money out of others with this calling scam.

I am glad you were aware and knew that this was some sort of a scam and that all things are done in person with consultorios de visa. I also wonder how they got a hold of his number. I am wondering if it is someone from his town, or someone he knows that somehow found out you guys are in the visa process and is trying to "hacerla una maldad". Be very careful, there are some very hateful and jealous people capable of doing a lot of harm. This is why I think this process should be kept hidden until the very end and you have the visa in hand. I wish you both the best of luck and hope no more weird scams arise!

I agree Stephanie, that's why his family has no idea where in the process we are! LOL I am trying to figure out how we can have him do his medical and even go to the interview without them knowing...but I know its going to be tough! LOL

Thank you, but i really dont think is someone close to him since it was an old man talking and he doesnt talk to his friends about things happening in our relationship, and not even our parents know if we started the process or not so it is very crazy. And im sooo glad that i know about the process and didnt fail for it, as its all because visajourney :-)

@jolusa, i know how u can get him to go do medical and interview without his family knowing, its easy just have him say he sleeping oversome1s house or that he has to do something for you to another city and that he has to leave early. Just like i did with my mom when i had to do kedical to enter the military i sadly told her i was going in a school trip and at 5 am i was out the door n my recruiter was waiting for me to take me to the medical center.

Thanks Martha&Alex. Yeah, that sounds like an idea.

I wish it wasn't that way, but once his family knows, they start talking with the neighbors, who start talking to random people "ohh tu sabe que le llego la cita a fulano" and so on. Then we have crazy old dudes calling on the phone trying to scam money!

Me knowing that this happend i will not by all means let anyone know if we in the process or not except here since i will always have a question. And josula i will do exactly like you want to do get him to do medical and interview without anyone knowing. I leave to DR on sat i will be going to go get the mc and be with him for a while n when i come back i will beggin this journey.

Jo, our plan was to keep the interview a secret too. I told a couple people in my family and he told his mom and all of a sudden everywhere knew.

Even after we told the people to not tell anybody. It was hard to keep it a secret from people like his mom and my aunts, so we trusted them and told them. Good thing everything went well at the cita and after or else we would have had to tell EVERYONE we were denied.

Lol @ stephanie it is going to be hard but we going to be forced to do it like that cus look at what happened and we havent started the process imagine what else can happen, i rather keep it quiet, and then when we approved tell everyone the good news. Im not planning on doing the joint sponsor with no type of family members since my family likes to throw things in ur face so i will ask one of my coworkers or even friends back from home. So i dont think keeping it a secret within his friends and family would b a problem.

Yeah few people knew about it while the petition was with uscis and nvc. But once we got the cita date it blew up! Keep it a secret, it's best that way.

Steph la emocion detapo el secreto lol. But i will try to keep it on the low untill the very end and more because about 6 yrs ago he got denied for a visitors visa. And i would not like for another denial to happen and have everyone know about it. We took our time and i guess now is the time to get everything started and keep it quiet. Si Dios quiere asi sera!! Be prepared to be asked about the denial for the visitor's visa. They will most definitely ask about this.

I think that as soon as they realize that una "Americana" is in a relationship with someone down there they assume that we are petitioning for them. It makes sense I mean i would assume it too that if you get married that would be the plan. So even if you dont tell anyone people will always assume... lol we are screwed regardless hahaha

Yes we really are, i didnt think about it like this but this call actually came in almost at the 2 months mark from the day we got married. Is like they were waiting to make this call. Im not falling for none of those scams i know things are done via the consultorio and the things before that pay by check with the first application after that online n so on.
