He knows mine and I know his, I have never felt the need to hide anything and neither has he.

ditto

And I did no housekeeping before giving it to him - because as JP says, I have nothing to hide

Oh I don't really have anything to hide, per se, but there are things that I'd rather he not see such as personal emails to my friends about him!!! I mean sometimes there are things you don't want the other person to see. So I guess I do have things to hide...but they're not bad. Just things like when I vent about things. I don't think that's wrong, I think it's healthy.

I hear what you are saying. I definitly do my fair share of venting but its usually in person or IM or the phone. So my reasoning comes down to this. When I was in Human Resources I used to do this orientation for all new emplyees. I would always talk to them about using the company computers to visit questionable websites. So I would say if they were unsure if something was questionable, to pretend that I was standing behind them, would they visit it if they knew I was there? So for me, before I post anything, say anything, wear anything, I think to myself would I do this if he was here? I expect the same from him.

good advice!!! I should have learned my lesson after sixth grade....we moved from our house to a condo and in the process someone in my house threw out my diary. Well one of the boys in my neighborhood found it on the street and READ THE PAGE OUTLOUD IN A CLASS WHERE I PLEDGED MY LOVE FOR THIS BOY WHO NEVER KNEW I LIKED HIM!!!

My nana said ,"never put anything in writing that you don't wanna read in the papers". Boy was she right!

This was an uncomfortable issue for me. I never felt the need to have his password nor share mine. I think people should be afforded both trust and their own little privacies. Mohammed however was constantly pushing his password at me until I broke down and accepted it. I really didn't want it. I trust him and I don't need these types of proofs. I gave him mine because it seemed wrong not to do so but I have nothing at all to hide from him. So yes, we traded passwords, but it was never a big deal for me.

I may be sticking my foot in it, but I also think if someone wants to have secrets they will, password or not. A person can have a gazillion accounts. So to me its all a moot point anyway.

Very valid point here! What it boils down to I guess is the trust thing. If he wanted to do something behind my back I guess he could. We are beyond that though, so it really isn't an issue.

It is quite common for my husband to get into one of my emails on a regular basis because we do ebay together, and that is the ebay and paypal e-mail on record. He is always forgetting one of his passwords he has to various accounts, and asks me if I remember. Although it didn't start out the right way, it is working for us.

There have been 2 very valid points here that I never thought of. One, your work. I am in accounting, and because of this I have access to very confidential information. He has never asked for that password, nor would I give it to him, its my job. Of course there is nothing exciting there either.

The other thing I have never thought of is the personal e-mails from people. Well lets just say if there is something personal someone wants to tell us, it is either done by phone or in person. This one never really crossed my mind because of that.

Very good points everyone.

We know each other's passwords -- not because we HAVE to know (trust issues, etc) but because we just do. That, and if by chance something would happen to either one of us, we'd have access to important stuff.
