If this trend continues, then I believe Kirsten's theory would be correct. She has consisently argued that there would be a push to finish up as much as they could before OCT, when many temp/contracters would be let go after the funding ran out.

For those of you who don't know, USCIS was given an extra 500 million USD to use for backlog reduction. That was for 2001 - 2006. We are now in fiscal year 2007 and no more extra money for backlog reduction. There might indeed be a marked delay going foward. This is conjecture so will have to see if indeed the slowdown trend continues.

All,

When is the end of the government's fiscal year?

Yodrak

It would seem the small rush of approvals at the end of September wasn't what most of us hoped for, a move by CSC to maintaining some type of "normal" processing of K-1's. Even before the rush at the end of September was better than now. There have been very few approvals in the last two weeks. Prior to the IMBRA mess, CSC was averaging about 90 days to process a K-1. Then IMBRA caused some major delays on many K-1 applications causing those folks to wait an extremely long time for their N0A2. There are still some of those poor souls waiting for their approvals. Maybe they're working other types of visas now, and will get back to K-1's later. I may have missed some approvals, but weren't there only 3 or 4 approvals for K-1 during the past two weeks? Does anyone want to venture a wild guess as to why so few approvals so far in October?

I was going to agree with the OP that perhaps as CSC is now getting some approvals from August/September in under 90 days their focus may have been directed elsewhere. And that would be understandable - if there wasn't people still waiting from March, April, May and June. But they can't (shouldn't) just throw all the pending files in a box to work on something else.

We all pay our $170 which is supposed to cover all USCIS costs so they don't need additional funding (apart from backlogs). But any backlog initiative from 2001 would not have been targetting IMBRA backlogs.

As usual $$$ rule the world! I still think it's wrong that an employer can pay the premium processing fee but a fiance can't.

I know Kitkat and Kristen are well informed, but God I hope they're wrong! The thought of anymore delays is just too depressing.

We have received touches this week but no NOA2. I can easily believe the issue of fiscal year end and reduced funding - very typical of government. We were told in our RFE receipt email that preliminary processing was done so less time than usual will be needed to approval. Since then, four more touches over two weeks and still waiting. The unpredictable and unfair treatment is tough on the nerves. Managing a workoad in a first come first served situation is really not that hard.

I got a touch on 10/1.

And yes the US gov fiscal year ends on Sept 30, for most agencies they go into "continuing resolution" for the month of October which means they function but they normally cannot purchase much of anything like supplies (at least in DHS its this way, which would include USCIS).

As for contractors yes their contract probably ran out on Sept 30, BUT there is usually a renewal timeframe and/or a "continuing resolution" for that as well, so some contractors may still be hanging around working hopefully for a renewal. I was a contractor before I was a fed and I was caught up in that mess 1 or 2 times. My guess would be the 500 million ran out and the contractors are mostly gone as of Oct 1 so we may have a slowdown this month.

Nope...not even that :( and with all those posts of people getting RFE's for birth certificates, I don't know if I'm happy or sad to not get a touch.

The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority.
