My wife and I submitted the I-485 for her and her sons. On the I-485 form I signed in Part 6 because one son is 3, while the other is 10. I put their full name, date and our phone number in Part 5 with no signature. I have receive the package back and one of the issues it says is

"A signature is not contained in the signature block of the application or petition. A signature in the "Signature of person preparing form, if other than above" block is not a valid signature for this purpose. Please sign and resubmit the application with the appropriate fees to USCIS address listed on the bottom of this notice."

Is my wife only able to sign in the 'signature of person preparing form' field? Or do they want a 3 year old to scribe something also? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

A parent can sign for their minor children. Have her sign the forms where they would in Part 5 and put (Mother or Mother of applicant) next to the signature or printed name.

The same thing happened to me, I have a 10 year old stepdaughter. I had her sign it, sent it back and it went through :)For the 3 year old-- I agree with the above post, have your wife sign it and put (mother).
