I'm a bit confused about when I can apply for citizenship. We have been married since 2009 but got my permanent residence in 9/2010 and applied for ROC last year in June. When can I apply for citizenship?

You can apply 90 days before your third year of residency's anniversary, so you could apply to naturalize in June.

Seiko got her approval letter today, dated 4/15 and her new card has been ordered (letter says up to 60 days, assume it will come sooner). Updating the information below. Finally!

By the way, for the RFE, I submitted more tax forms, travel itineraries for Seiko, myself, her kids from Japan, her niece from Japan, a ton of photos from those trips where they flew to Boston from Japan and spent the holidays with my family. Also, an affidavit from my father and mother (I recall reading here on VisaJourney that affidavits from family are not recommended, but when I called USCIS, they told me that affidavits from family are not only accepted but welcome).

Phoned on Monday (it had finally been 60 days) and yesterday finally got the "card production ordered" status update! Also got an apology letter because it had been stuck at VSC, which really surprised me. Hope I have the green card next week. I haven't been able to change the address on my drivers' license because they require a valid GC.

ok my wife and I are looking for some help....

We sent her I-751 in June 2012... We received our NOA 6/11/2012.... Our case is slightly different than everyone elses as we are overseas on government orders... When we submitted the paper and received our NOA we have received nothing else because we sent in the fingerprints with out original case file (done by a military base overseas)... when I call the 800 number they are able to give me no more information other than when we first asked in march and they requested us to wait 60 more days.... i know it hasn't been 60 days (its close, may 18th will be 60 days) but they say there is no way to know the status of her case.... how can this be possible? We are coming up on the expiration of the NOA extension and want to travel home this summer.... they suggested we go to our nearest consulate and explain our situation and obtain a visa to travel home... this seems insane...

It's the government, abnormal is normal, but then, you're already aware of that since you said you're on government orders overseas. ;-)

Also, hiring a lawyer won't get you answers any faster than you could get them yourself, so I wouldn't waste money on that, especially since you've submitted your wife's package and haven't been denied.

Two things, first follow the instructions they gave you about you and your wife going to the nearest consulate, making sure to bring your copy of the submitted I-751 package and the received NOA extension letter. The consulate should be able to interact with USCIS and let them know that the consulate is going to issue a visa as your wife hasn't actually been denied (they'd tell you by now if she was), and it's quite possible that you'll get an extension letter from the consulate.

Second, contact your elected representative explaining to them the same thing, letting them know that you've gone to the consulate along with the results and that you're concerned that your wife's package has somehow been misplaced. Make sure to give the elected official a copy of your wife's package NOA along with copies of anything you get from the consulate.

In all honesty, the congressman won't actually be able to hold USCIS to a specific time line, but the more contacts USCIS has about the status of you wife's package, the more likely that you'll actually start to get some action.

Spoke with someone via email at the uscis rome today through a contact i have...

here is what they said:

Service records shows no action on I-751 application, can you please verify with Mr. XXXXXX if he had included the Military orders when form I-751 was filed?


Probably the I-751 application has been placed on hold until they are going back to the U.S.



When the active duty and the spouse return stateside, their Form I-751 can be processed. If they wish to process their Form I-751 while they are still overseas on orders, they should contact the Service Center and ask for an appointment. If Form I-751 is granted, the spouse will have to be scheduled for biometrics and will then receive a Permanent Alien Card.



If the spouse is holding an expired Conditional Card, he/she will have to contact the CBP Attache’ in Rome for instruction on how to reenter the U.S.

Please also note that status of their Form I-751 may be checked on line at: www.uscis.gov.

So I attached my gov't orders when I submitted it, as well as my wifes fingerprints as the instructions say to do.... It seems to me that even USCIS has no clue whats going on... I shouldn't have to make any more appointments as from what I've read once I submit the initial package with the fingerprints I usually won't see anything after the initial NOA until the new greencard arrives

Also I can't check my status online because the EAC number I have doesnt have the ability to be checked online (only the ones for biometric appointments do apparently??)

Also I did send off something to my senator today, but apparently the person that deals with this isn't in the office until next week.

Jump to the n400 app and get it over with it is relatively the easiest process and once that's done then there this immigration journey will officially be over with

Hey guys, I went to the Info Pass this morning, and on the process of getting an extension to my letter of employment, the immigration officer told me that they approved my application on May 31st, and that I should get the green card within two weeks. We are very happy and excited, now getting ready for ROUND 3, N-400.

Hello everyone,

Quick questions about preparing my moms I-485, I know I'm in the wrong forum but I thought I might get an answer faster this way than starting a new threat... Anyways, we are preparing her cover letters, she's in the United States, has overstayed, and her english is minimal, should she put her name on the cover letters for each form OR her name in c/o my name, example:
