SS NUMBER FOR AOS?

Hi all!

I am seeking advices on AOS. Do I need to apply for social security number in order to file AOS? I am planning to file soon. Any advice would be appreciciated.

You don't need an SSN to file AOS. If you don't have one yet, just put NONE.

you don't need your SS# to apply. we still don't have my husband's, they won't give him one until he is approved for his EAD b/c someone messed up his paperwork (on their end not ours), but regardless we got married and filed all our papers without it, with no problems

Have you applied for an SSN? Even though it's not needed for the AOS to be filed you should still go ahead an apply while you are eligible with just the I-94 for proof of work authorization.

When did he get here?

SSA will not assign an SSN or issue a card to an individual that is within 14 days of his or her alien status expiring. Until the 76th day after entry an individual with K-1 status only needs to provide an unexpired I-94 showing current K-1 status to establish employment authorized status for SSN purposes.

Once, an individual with K-1 status has been in the United States 76 days he or she will need another document, i.e. I-551, I-688B or I-766 to establish employment authorized status for SSN purposes.
