a good amendment to know...

yup. it truly puts power in the hands of the people.

How is that? They always make sure their guns are bigger and better than our guns. In modern day America the 2nd Amendment is just an illusion.

I use my guns for sport and to hedge my bets against the too slow response times of the average police department. A lot can happen in the 10 - 15 minutes it takes them to arrive on the scene.

I don't totally disagree with your comment. My theory is that if there is ever another revolution the military would be divided too and it would be a fairer fight. Just my theory.

I'd rather have too many people with guns than to have them outlawed. Guns do less harm than cars, tobacco and alcohol.

At this point it is too late to outlaw all guns. Only the honest folks would give up their guns to the government anyway. I'd much rather see the focus on keeping guns out of the hands of crazies, criminals, the immature, and the irresponsible. Uncle Sugar can't even control the US border to keep out narcotics, aliens, criminals, etc. With that in mind, do you honestly believe the government could keep illegal guns out of the hands of street thugs? Making guns illegal would just be another moneymaking operation for criminals.

I'm not really afraid of a mass revolution against the US government. I'm more afraid of the breakdown of civil order in localized instances a la the 1992 LA / Rodney King Riots and the recent New Orleans Hurricane Katrina disaster. I still remember the Korean shop owners having a running firefight with LA street thugs from the roof of their store when the LA cops stood down in 1992. Not to mention the people dragged out of their cars and killed / assaulted when there were no cops to stop it.

No thanks, I'll keep my guns. Anybody else is welcome to trust the government to protect them.

I've been hunting and fishing since I was a young boy. Handling guns is natural to me because I've done it for many years and was taught by my dad and uncles to be safe and responsible. I'm just as afraid of honest well meaning people buying guns in a knee jerk reaction to news events. If a person is going to own a gun it would behoove them get training to learn how to use the thing safely and responsibly.

To some the NRA is the devil, but a major part of their agenda is to push for firearms training and competency.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
