Used this article because it points out how silly this is. It's all over CNN, Faux News, etc.. as well - so is a legit story and quite pathetic of the Feds. Typical BS we can expect these days.

High School Fined $15,000 For Selling Soda

The ever lengthening, long arm of the government is at it again. A Utah high school has been fined over $15,000 for committing the heinous crime of selling soda via a vending machine. The fine is due to a violation of federal law which requires schools to turn off soda machines during their lunch period, which at this Utah school is 47 minutes a day. Davis High School complied with the law and regularly turned off the lunchroom machines. However, they failed to turn off a machine in a separate section of the building located in the school bookstore. When the food police caught wind of this, Davis High was fined $0.75 per student. Since the fine must be paid out of the schools regular budget, they will be forced to cut funding to their fine arts program.

Principal Dee Burton feels this law is disingenuous, citing that while students cannot purchase carbonated drinks during lunch, they still may buy sports drinks loaded with sugar and high fructose corn syrup, and snickers bars because they contain “healthy” nuts. Students can also purchase soda before lunch and consume it while they eat their meal. It seems the principal is correct. It only takes a bit of common sense to see that this law has nothing to do with health concerns for kids, and everything to do with government regulation, and forced compliance.

There is no doubt about it, soda is bad for the human body. There are countless studies to prove it. But this law does nothing to keep kids in schools from drinking it. It merely limits the time of the day they can purchase it. In fact, it likely will drive kids to leave campus during lunch to go somewhere the product of their desire can be found. This greatly increases the chances of students getting into trouble with more than just carbonated, sugary beverages during their 47 minutes of free time.

This soda machine debacle also sheds some light on the hypocrisy of our oppressive, progressive liberal government. They will incessantly preach about rights of choice when it comes to teen pregnancy, or a woman’s right to choose. They feel a high school student is capable of making the choice to abort a baby, but what beverage to have with lunch might be more than their young, impressionable minds can handle. They can choose what to do with their own body in one situation, but not in the next? That hardly seems logical, or at all consistent.

This is not about your health or the health of your child. This is a small nudge from the government, pushing us, slowly but surely into giving up our rights. It starts with something like soda, which is a sensible thing to surrender. First they nudge, then they push, then they shoot. What will we be forced to give up “for our own good” next? One can only imagine.
